If it were my Z id probably be on a whole new damn tranny, suspension and everything. I got to drive a Z3, and that things clutch is so light, it was made by the gods themselves. If you ever come to california, i think you know where to stop by first. So you can see the mighty VTEC FURY!.

Hey RC, why not replace the clutch with something a little more aggressive and durable? One would imagine that if you did, you'd get even more pleasure out of driving the car hard, as it would take it like...well...a man hehe. As for durability...the GT might have some issues, but no doubt it's better screwed together than most other domestics, and the engine should be pretty much bullet proof seeing as it's in essence a modified Triton V8.

id have to agree, myself. the viper engine has seen little dificulty in durabity, as of course, it is a base from a truck powertrain as well. im not too worried about the trans being to problematic, as it is made over at Recardo. hard to say about the clutch yet...

The reviews say that the Ford GTs clutch is as soft as a Honda Accords. As for engine durability they said that when it hit 205 mph it didn't feel like the top speed a very good thing that means that even at the top speed the Ford GTs engine won't wear itself out. and it stull felt like you were going fast as hell.

I remeber before they made the ford gt the lead project supervisoer of the Modena said that the Ford GT had no chance he must feel like an ass now. Another good thing is before they added the extra hp it still had a hp restriction of 400 against a non-restricted 360 and still kicked its ass I wonder how fast it is now.

Saleen, Enzo, Carrera range of power.?

That is pretty obvious at this point. It's out of the 360 Modena's league in everything but CS trim, and in CS trim, the 360 is almost identically as fast as the Porsche 996 GT3 RS...which says that the CGT, Enzo, and likely the Saleen as well would be appreciably faster around a racetrack. The GT would probably beat the CGT in a straight line drag race to 60 mph, and would be close to as fast as the Saleen and Enzo from 0-60 and possibly into triple-digit speeds. The GT's engine makes 550bhp and 500lb-ft, the same output as the original S7 and about the same amount of torque as well. The CGT and Enzo both have less torque, but 612 and 660bhp respectively compared to the Ford's 550.

As for the hp "restriction" at 400bhp, during the prototype phase, you have things a little confused. The 400bhp engine wasn't even the 5.4L unit, it was in essence a slightly more powerful version of the Mustang SVT Cobra's supercharged 4.6L, and as a result, was probably a bit lighter than the finished car is. Granted it was still heavier than the 360, which still had less power and less torque than the GT, even in that prototype guise. (395bhp and 275lb-ft compared to the Ford's 400bhp and something in excess of 320lb-ft would be about on target). Even so, a 4 second per lap advantage at Laguna Seca is nothing to be sniffed at...however, you have to realize that 360 in question was also completely disassembled by the GT team and then reassembled, so it might well not have been up to the original Maranello performance capabilities.

Even so, the fact remains that the Ferrari is the more involving car to drive, the Ford is more relaxed, even if it is faster, read any review and it will tell you that.

the Ford was made to be driven every day, Its like the Z06 of the Supercar market, it has air, cd, comfortable seats, and a nice suspension. While the Modena was meant to be a weekend canyon carver.

I know...it's just not exactly a fair comparison for either competitor hehe.

Yeah thats what I thought. It was kinda stupid but when they started it they didn't know that they would have made the car in the saleen region.

officially yesterday the news on the top speed is out... at least in inner ford circles!!

205mph top speed !!!!!
it takes 4 miles altogehter, and beats out the original 202mph of the Ford GT40. extensive testing has truly paid off compared to the pre production press cars!
550hp and the "Official" top speed is 205mph. The "Unofficial" top speed(also from Ford) is the 212mph achieved at Nardo 3 times by 3 different drivers.

quote the Top Gear
As the development cycle has moved on, the GT's big V8 has proven to be even more powerful than first predicted. "It now gives 550bhp," confirms GT Program Manager, Jamal Hameedi
Now, due to some unfathomable bureaucratic decision, Ford has decided to down-play the GT's top speed, planning to publish it as a still-mighty 205mph - a figure high enough to make this the fastest Ford road car ever.

well, im glad you brought this back up... the gt kicks ass

what you dont know is this....

yes, the silver and black Ford GT hit an astounding 212mph.

the yellow black ford gt driven to 202 mph by top gear on the autobon sucessfully hit 209mph, and has the most miles yet of any of the pre-production cars (hovering above the 6800 mark last i heard)

the yellow/black which i photographed last month is also the EXACT same one that TG drove.

all production GT's will be electornically limited to 205 mph (i wonder why even bother... its well beyond the 155 mark)

One hopes that they have thoroughly tested the car at 205mph and done many runs up to the rev limiter/speed limiter to make sure that as the car hits the limit it doesn't get unsettled.

I know that the first time I ran the Z up to the rev limiter in 5th, it was in cool January air and it pulled all the way to 6600rpm (173ish mph) in 5th pretty quickly - and I run into the rev limiter pretty hard and the car felt a little unsettled as the fuel cut out.

Since then I always feather at about 6500 so the hard cutoff isn't so unsettling.

Perhaps the speed limiter is more gentle - but I should imagine the GT will still be pulling really hard at 205mph - and one would hate to have off-throttle over steer at that speed I am sure...

that is an interesting question, RC45. thats still 7mph from either rev limit, or drag limit...
the gt, like the vette seem to have 6th gear for one reason... fuel economy...

off topic, heres a question while im thinking about it...
corvettes notoriously have a built in shift from 1rst to 4th if not driving harder... is that disabled in yours?

The most likely reason for the "limited" top speed of 205 has to do with tire integrity. After all there has to be some reason that tire manufacturers have gradations of speed associated with their tires hehe.

well that would help keep the tire costs down from the price for a set on most supercars over $2000 USD

shit if you are gonna buy the car and then spend enough money to actually get it somewhere then you can buy some new tires.
