i think as of late news, BMW dropped the idea of 2, and 4 series. Cuz the next 3 series should still be Coupes and Sedans, and Converts. I havent heard anything new on a 2 series though. My guess is they dropped it, and will just continue with one series. Also talk about opening up a dead thread.

if i know a bit about bmw, they will make an m version of 1 series but as it was stated before, they can not call it M1 because of the history. so they should make something new. i do not know whether this new something will be a new line?

this idea of separating the 1,3,5,7 series for the saloon cars, and the series 2,4,6,8 for coupes and cabrios is an old idea actually...for instance this policy has been always fulfilled by BMW for every case except for the 3 series (here we go the 6 series and 8 series for the medium big sized coupes) they have always maintained the M3 name for its smallest sporty versions in order to not to loose the already gained prestige in 1987

Last thing I read is that a BMW official said that there is definately not going to be a 2 and 4 series. The cars (coupé and convertible based on the 1 series platform and the same based on the 3 series) will come, but they won't be given 2 and 4 series names.
