I have been meaning to buy an Eclipse or talon AWD from around 95-99 for quite some time just to tinker with, they are cheap enough to obtain, however with my recent marriage and house mortgage sucking my blood, my car craze madness is on life support, recently I was given the go ahead to buy me a new car since I have had a 93 RX-7 for over a decade, I so want a corvette, but I am torn between a huge monthly payment on a new vette or two straight purchases of older cars... hmmm I like that talon

To be stock, the motor needs to be, well, stock, not modified.

In JDM terms, stock means the engine hasn't been completely replaced since thats normally how they can get any power out of the cars.

So? They completely modified the engine intake/exhaust events. The fact the pistons/rods/crank and block is "stock" is of no consequence.
All changing the lower rotating assebmly woudl do is improve reliabity, it is going to do very little if anything to increase/improve power production.

From the video description:
only internal mods are arp headstuds and drop in cams. GT30R

This is not a stock motor - it is highly modified.
Last time I checked, every OHC is a "drop in cam" - thats how you install them
These guys ae just playing the semantics game. They cracked open that motor, so its modded.
Besides - how can you really trust that they are not flat out telling a lie? You really think an engine builder won't make other changes while they are in there?
If they did ARP studs, then what about the rockers? How would yo uknow if the ehads weren't ported?
I was thinking, 126mph seems like a crazy low MPH for 10.94s run.

Clearly modded, you'd have to off your tits to call that a standard engine.

Anytime you do a cam change you're not stock. The camshaft is the defining mechanical intelligence of the engine. Changing it completely changes how the engine acts no matter how hard or easy it is to access.
That car is really hooking up well. I wonder what sort of final drive ratio it's running.

Heh, lots of these AWD Turbo Talon/Eclipses will do 10 second 1/4miles. While it definitely isn't stock, it doesnt take much other than a big turbo to get those times.

They are often low mph in the 10's if the owner drops significant weight in the car. I know one guy who lowered weight by 300 lbs by removing nonsense in the engine bay alone... let alone ripping out his interior. AWD helps
Still, the joke about DSM's is that for every DSM on the street, there are 3 in the workshop. Not terribly reliable when running bigger power

Most four bangers are not that reliable when running big power

DSM's are on the low end of 4 banger reliability, and on the high end of aftermarket support
