Car & Driver Lightning Lap
Holy crap, the Mosler i figured, but the Viper ACR once again went clobbering. LOL @ the Cobalt beating out the EVO, Elise, STI, and S2000.

Why no GT2, GT3 or Z06? Did they select cars to allow the GT-R and Ferrari look good?

Is there a reason why the put the Viper in Level 3 instead of 5?
Why on earth would they put an Z51 instead of the Z06. No Porsche at all, not even a Cayman?
2 Honda and 2 BMW??...oh please....
Seems like Cheve did a good job on the COBALT SS
I have never seen sector times calculated with deadbands in between. Trying to make numbers look nicer for some cars? If you add the time diff between the 430 and the GT-R, the GT-R should be .7 faster. However, over a full lap, the 430 is faster by over a second.

I believe they have had a Z06, a Cayman, a 911 Turbo, and possibly a GT3RSR around the track in previous iterations of the Lightning Lap. I dont have my stash of Car and Drivers with me, but I'm pretty sure they have had those cars around the track already.

Because it would displace the new big dollar French, I mean Japanese, advertiser from the top of the list.

But the point of the back to back lightning lap was to eliminate driver/weather/track variables.
You cant proclaim a "best" if you dont have them all in the list.
Especially if a class claim is being made.

so go look up the times for the Z06 if you are really that curious, rather than just busting on C&D for being biased.

A ameture bench racer took a c6 Z with better then Goodyear stock tires, worse than GTR Dunlop stock tires, and cat-back ehxaust around one of the major rag's tracks; and managed to lap something like 11s faster then the major auto rag did around the same track, and same configuration...... 6s faster than the GTR...

But the comparison will be moot - different day/different test.
Again, the point of a "standard" is to be just that., "standard". I thought we established a long time ago that comparison times are pointless - thats why they started doing the back to back standard tests.

You guys dont seem to have any problems comparing nuburgring times that were set on different days/different test and different drivers.
Maybe they couldnt get a Z06 for testing or something. They had one out the last two times they did the lightning lap.

Couldnt get a Z06 for testing? Are you serious? They are laying 10 deep on lots all across the country.
The lightning lap test was setup to allow for same day comparisons... what was the poitn of having the Z51 with no competitor and the GT-R with no competitor?
Simple.. to allow the F-Car and N-Car to have the limelight.

According to Car and Driver they only looked at cars with major changes in FY08/09.
The Gt2 gt3 and z06 didnt change. The other cars mentioned did.. Drastically. The Z51, my car,
has a new engine, new transmission, and new interior.
Im not defending their take, especially since they havent posted any data logger info, but thats why.

See graywolf's answer above.
Perhaps they are not as biased as you think... Not everyone is out to screw Corvette out of the limelight they diverse. If you look at the previous month, they have the ZR1 on the cover, and guess what, they loved it.
And even though there are Z06s laying around dealers lots doesnt mean that Chevy has test cars laying around. Might be the same story with the ZR1 (minus the dealer surplus).
And if you go to the original article on the lightning lap, it does not state that it was designed to have same day comparisons of every car on the market. It was designed to be like the nurburgring or the top gear track where each car goes out and puts down a lap number for comparison over time.
