IMO, no harm in polishing and waxing a car. I like to do it, it's time spent with my vehicle, and it's enjoyable in it's own way.

To say that a car is "just for driving" is like saying your wife is just for fucking. Meaning you don't enjoy spending time eating with her, having a walk with her, having a conversation with her or giving her a little massage?

Personally, I like cars clean, it brings out their look better then something that's full of grime.

Of course, if you give your car off to have it done by someone else, then that kinda defeats the purpose and makes it more a poser type affair, but I know I like to drive a clean car versus a dirty one. Maybe it's just that I prefer a little organization and cleanliness *shrug*

That's why I wrap my Veyron in plastic Saran wrap.

Now to go on top of the last process......but it in a vacum jar and lock it up.

Overkill IMO, 1 bug smash on the hood after a quick drive and you will be more pissed than anyone on the road.

Agreed. That's why I wash mine and give it a good paint sealant and wax and go out for a drive and wait for that first bug splat to set me off on a bug killing spree!

You can only detail so much, if you get a stone chip, no wax can save ya.

If I can afford a veyron, I will trash it as much as I can and get it repainted every other month LOL
