IMO, no harm in polishing and waxing a car. I like to do it, it's time spent with my vehicle, and it's enjoyable in it's own way.
To say that a car is "just for driving" is like saying your wife is just for fucking. Meaning you don't enjoy spending time eating with her, having a walk with her, having a conversation with her or giving her a little massage?
Personally, I like cars clean, it brings out their look better then something that's full of grime.
Of course, if you give your car off to have it done by someone else, then that kinda defeats the purpose and makes it more a poser type affair, but I know I like to drive a clean car versus a dirty one. Maybe it's just that I prefer a little organization and cleanliness *shrug*
