"ticking" or "knocking" only when in dri
Ticking or knocking kind of sound. Car ran hot a couple of times because of leak in rradiator tank intake.
Problem began during driving when hot. just changed alternator belt. I took of the airconditioning belt to get the new alternator belt on and didn't put it back on. Is this motor blown? Is also low on oil. noise gets quicker the more I accelerate but doesn't make it at all in park or nuetral. only when in drive and accelerating.

Doesn't seem like anything major. Cars do this every so often.

um.....
hello, anybody home? he's had the car for a while, and these are new noises.....
prepare for worse to come.... sounds like you are expecting it, and its an old car, and tons of problems..... it would be costly to fix it.... could be some serious issues ranging from a rod that is about to go, to seals that are blown, compression lost in cylinders... bottom end could be dying; the top end could be.
i'm not a technition; but a few people here are.

He didn't say it was an old car. I just don't think it's anything to freak out about. I would still get it checked out, though.

how many new cars leak radiator fluid, overheat, lose oil pressure etc. etc. ? short of a car accident.

if you are running hot and leaking raditor fluid, have low oil, and its making more noises then it should. you need to sell the car and ride the bus. you are not fit for driving a car when you can't take care of it.

its a 91 dodge shadow
I just bought it though and from a dealer.
No warranty. I hope its not a rod or something. Is that really to big of a problem or fixable?

We have a car problems and modifications section.
But for starters, if it was a rod knock, he'd hear it under any load and it would be about twice as fast as the engine rpm. and it would be pretty heavy.
Ticking, is generally hydraulic lifters that have collapsed which is typical when the engine runs out of oil and can't fill the lifters.
I'm not too familiar with the shadow, but i think it's a cam in block engine, so it would have rocker arms that may need to be adjusted. If the ticking is about half the speed as engine rpm, check the valve lash if possible and adjust it.
There is a slight concern about your cylinder head though, depending on how long you ran it hot. 4 bangers REALLY don't like extra heat. If you want to check for a blown head gasket, take off the radiator cap and start the engine. If you get a large geyser of water out of the hole, then you have combustion pressure leaking into the cooling system. If your coolant or oil looks like a chocolate milkshake, then you have coolant leaking into the oil, or viceversa.
If your head gasket is blown, and you can't change it yourself, start looking around for used engines because it'll be cheaper to replace the engine than the head gasket. Fortunately the Shadow isn't a popular car, so there isn't a high demand for the engines and it should be pretty cheap.

well the key here is that the noise only happens when in drive not in Neutral or drive. so personally it soundsmore like a trans problem to me not so much the engine. does the car make the noise in park but full throttle? it might be spark knock. (cheapest fix)

Head gasket is broke.
Head gasket is def. broken.
Could this eplain the noise? Should I still be worried about the rod?
I also put in a new radiator. I should have done that right away.
How likely would both the rod and head gasket be bad and happen at the same time?

that's kind of a tough question to answer.
Which test showed it was the head gasket? If it was the radiator cap test, then it's possible that the rod may have been bent during start up due to coolant leaking into the cylinder, but you would feel a significant power loss.
The oil loss would more than likely cause the rod knock, but once pressure resumed, there is a good chance it would go away depending on how far gone it is.
