no hakkinen is just plain wrong. XP5 was the car that set the record of 240.1mph on Ehra Lessien, thats basically a McLaren F1 final version, no turbo's at all. BTW RC45 thanks for the pics, real nice ones

That's how many they originally planned/hoped to build.

In Driving Ambition they tell exactly how many were built and what color each one was, and I believe its 108 (including XPs and longtail roadcar), although I'm not 100% sure about that.
Look at the second post down.

It's mine

All the info is on the McLaren site.
Yah, I caught that, and I know how this sounds, but they are leaving some out...

I believe 100 is the number of cars originally built to be sold to customers (including the GTRs, which were built at the request of customers who wanted to race the F1), but I promise you there were more than just 100 built.

Thanks for the pics RC.

F1 GT - 2.....................: 1997
McLaren itself says 3 F1 GT's..but that might just as well be 2 production versions and a prototype that doesn't differ from the other 2

BTW this is the most nitpicking discussion ever on JW

Anyone else have the Mclaren book"Driving Ambition", probably the coolest book i have. So many amazing pictures, and it details the whole process of making the car.
Amazon.com: Driving Ambition: The Official Inside Story of the McLaren F1 (9781852278410): Doug Nye, Ron Dennis, Gordon Murray: Books Amazon.com: Driving Ambition: The Official Inside Story of the McLaren F1 (9781852278410): Doug Nye, Ron Dennis, Gordon Murray: Books

I also recommand it, this is a must have for every F1 lover. You can also buy the limited edition at 575 £ or, if you are an F1 owner, 1000 £

The french mag Sport-Auto (scan available in the magazine scans section) reports 99 (incl 28 GTR) without the prototypes

YES! It's the greatest book I own! I love it, and I got the poster from the book framed and its hanging on my wall! 8)

Too bad the book is at home...and I'm at college.

Anyways, thanks for clearing it up RC, I knew it was more than just 100 cars.
