Asolutely brilliantly stunning car, the 288 is. A friend of mine has put F40 turbos in it, along with the required plumbing (one of his 288 turbos failed and he couldn't find replacements despite owning a dealership) - it is now as fast as another F40 owner's car up to ~140mph.

Stunning stunning car, although I wouldn't want to own Irvine's.

Boba , ist the F40 Engine a 2.8 pumped to 3.0 liters in the F40 ? and the change of some IHI turbos that are ON all the time right ?

They are very similar cars , in fact i think the 288 Evolutione features the F40 engine , cuz the F40 was developed from there

Hell of a sexy car, I think the 288 is one of the most beautiful ferraris ever made, and if I had the money for that baby, I would buy it with no thinking.....But i dont

The F40 engine is oft-misquoted at either 2.8 or 2.9 liters, but it's actually smack dab between them at 2.85.

The F40 engine is 2936cc, and it´s not "misquoted" at 2.9 liters.

Yes. the F40 block is essentially that of the 308...very simple engine.

...very simple engine.

Very simple, yet extremely powerfull and responsive. The F40 is definetely in my top 3 of the nicest cars ever made.

I agree as well that the F40 has the same foundations as the 308, and the 288GTO as well....as well as the exclusive Lancia Thema 8.32

Doh!! Of course you're right jorge, somehow I got the displacements of the Porsche 959 and the F40 confused...the Porsche's IS 2851 cc.

The only downside (if you can call it that) with the turbo'd cars (288 and F40) is that they won't ever sound as good as say, a TUBI'd F50 as the turbines damp the should to much and won't allow the exhaust to be made anywhere near as tuneful. Still, stunning car nonetheless

Rob: you're exactly right - but trust me. That doesn't mean you can't make an F40 sound good...

Just a week ago i saw a 288 GTO.The only thing wrong with it was that it was a 308!!!.The fuckinjg idiot that owns it tryed to make it look like a 288 by putting a 288 gto front bumper and hood. The car was pathetic. It didnt have the right seats the right steering wheel or the right shifter knob for either the 288 or the 308!Also it ahd a panasonic CD player in it. :x

If you had a Ferrari engine 5 inches behind you would you be listening to CDs?
