Heres a discussion I have always wanted ti have.

Many times you hear about how someoen settled on a very fast/sporty 4 seater (4 or 2 door) such as an M3 or RS4 or CTS-V etc because of the extra seats and a proper trunk/boot versus the limited space in a 2 seater such as a Corvette or a 350Z or a Porker 911 (those are not seats back there

) ect.

Well - thonse that made a similar choice and now have 4 seats instead of 2, how many times over the life of the car have you actually used those extra 2 seats?

I eman over all, was it worth sacrificing the extra oomph of a dedicated 2 seater just to have seats to use "in case you needed to".

And then for the 2 seater crowd, how often have you been at Lowes or WalMart or outside a bar/restaurant and been really pissed because you only have a small trunk.boot or no extra seats?

Well - lets hear from the 2 seaters and the 4 seaters.. and see who really sacrificed the most

Well - for airport runs, I just call a car service..

So 2 seaters: 1 - 4 seaters: 1..

^^ But why? How often do you REALLY need the "convenience"?

Maybe Vette drivers really are spoiled - we have a very comfy roomy cabin, all weather (rain and shine - forget snow, people should not live in the snow belt

) comfort and ability as well as a trunk that is a big as an S class Benz trunk.

How many family sedans can fit 2 full size hard golf bags in the trunk with some room to spare?

I have used my car to ferry wood, people, wheels, tyres, groceries as well as haul arse...

Especially the married/seriously dating if you have 2 cars in the family, why do you need 2 people/baggage movers?

Not sure if a WRX counts, but I definately considered the 2 extra seats when buying it.

I often drive with more than one passenger which obviously requires extra seats, although as RC said I could live with two girls sitting on each other in the passenger seat.

For work I occassionally need to pick up things which are big enough to require the extra space given in a 4-seater.

Well now that I moved into a house, I have used the backseats a lot to carry stuff. Audi has a pretty caverous boot to begin with and with the rear seats lowered I can fit in a 6 feet long object pretty easily - used it for some bookshelves and such.

AS for the rear seats being used for people, it has been used pretty infrequently - a lot of the fat arse Texans wont fit in the rear any way.

And for your golf clubs comparo RC, bring it on - the S will hold it all and a spare wheel and three Tintin reading co-pilots

But hindsight is a bitch, sometimes I feel I could have bought a boring Corolla or something and a nice 993 instead of the S4 for not too much more money. Then there are other times when I feel I got a nice compromise ...

If ı had enough money to buy a two seated sports car like 'vette f430 etc. I have enough money to have a another car for if I need to carry more than one pessenger. For example I always want to have Elise and it has 2 seats. If I had enough money to buy that car I am sure I could buy a Focus ,Astra , Golf ....If I had lots of money I prefer 612 scaglietti/456 M GT for a f430/f360 because 612/4556 has 4 seats and it can carry 3 hot chicks

I am simply calling out all the wimps, pussies and posers who "compromised" on a 4 seater "just in case".

That makes all y'all no different to the soccer mom with the SUV or the super crew pickup truck driver in the suburbs.

You are not really sports car fans.. just wannabe's with a "safe back seat" in case your chick wants you to pick up some tampons for her on the way home from work.

Btw, to answer your question, who the fuck cares about passanger space. I would take a corvette, boxster S, 350Z etc anyday over an M3, S4 or the like. I would want the look of the sports car to go along with the "oomph" of a sports car. If you need more space, tell your friend with the civic to drive

95% of all cars that are driven on the roads, at least over here, seem to have a maximum of two people on board.

In that regard, a two seater should do just fine, and I also prefer a two seater, versus a 4.

However, whilst it is occasionally cool to have more seats to haul friends around with, it kinda boils down to the same discussion we had a while ago on owning a truck/SUV capable of hauling stuff in bulk. In that particular thread, I mentioned that I really ever only need a car like that once or twice a year when I need to bring some new furniture from the shop, back to my place. But instead of actually having bought a vehicle capable of doing it, I just pay a few extra bucks to the shop and they deliver it for me. Much less hassle

Of course, there are those who really do need the space, be it to transport goods, or people, but in reality, I think it's a load of bollocks.

Only if I had a family, would I seriously consider getting a 4 seater (currently, I don't have any kids, and won't be getting them for another few years... hopefully

). With my GF, we do just fine having two cars, both of which are two seaters.

And if I had to get a 4 seater... well, I can afford to get a second or third car, so might as well get a simple 4 seater, so that I can keep my more sporty 2 seater

I see it like this:

80% of the time, I'm alone in a car.
19% of the time, I'm with someone else.
1% of the time, I could do with an extra seat or two, but luckily there's taxis, friends cars, parents cars, etc...

For that one remaining percent, I don't consider it enough justification to purchase a 4 seater over a 2 seater. That's my opinion on the subject
