Default Help with iPod?

I got an iPod 20GB a few months back. It'd been working properly till last week. It still works properly / charges properly, but whenever I plug it in my PC USB slot, it doesnt get detected atall anymore. This just happened suddenly.. Even iTunes doesnt pick it up or detect it. I use my Pod also for file transferring (it became a temperory drive as soon as I attached it on the USB port, but since a few weeks, it doesnt even "Bong" the windows default sound that generally happens when I plug something on my USB port). This is really frustrating.. I can't update or change my songs.. Can't transfer data or anything..
My operating system is WinXP (sp2), havent changed anything on my PC or even updated or done anything to the drivers, it just suddenly stopped working and I dont have a clue why it has happened.
Can someone please tell me what the problem is and help me on what to do, so that windows detects it?
Thank you!
I tried my friends iPod Shuffle on this same PC and it works fine, only my pod is giving this problem...

The same thing happened to me as well....Pc did not recognise Ipod anymore...I sent it back to Apple Service Center...the refreshed the drivers etc...but did not help...so they replaced it for free. Quite a good service IMO!

No, SP2 is there on my PC since a while, but I do remember updating my my service pack security features few days back.. Anyhow, the thing is I never really installed ipod drivers in my PC, just installed itunes and it was working fine till a few days back.. I didnt think re-installing itunes would help as it wasnt detecting at all, so it wasnt iTunes problem.. I also tried attaching it to another PC (which I generally do, for file transfering) and even in that it didnt get detected (no service pack security update for that as long as i can tell).

OMG, thats bad news for me.. I got my iPod from the States and I am in India at the moment. So untill I go back I wouldnt get my iPod replaced ?? And the thing with replacing is that, I have a few important data backed up on this which I deleted from my PC HDD thinking its there Safe and Sound on my iPod!!!

theres a way to force it to connect to your pc.. if i remember correctly i think you have to connect it to your pc via usb or firewire and then hold down the menu button and middle select button.. it should reset and then connect.. if that doesnt work, look up the manual how to 'force connection'

Re-installing itunes didnt work aswell, I uninstalled the iTunes I had, downloaded the latest version and re-installed it, but to no avail. I can safely say its not Windows problem this, coz no Comp detects it, tried it at a friends place also, and it didnt get detected..

Will try that and let you know.. Or eventually will call the local Apple store and check with them if they'd replace it even if I got it from the States!

Will let you know if the "force connection" technique works or not! Thanks
