Default Lafayette Auto-X 2005

Spent all day out at the Autocross today. Even got to drive my roomate's E30 325is I was about a half second behind him in the lap times, which i think was pretty good since i didn't know his car too well. Fortunately BMW's are extremely predictable in what they will do. The E30 pretty much tells you when you're overpowering the steering because the the feel gets quite loose, which is fixable by backing out of the throttle a bit. However this surface was a shitty parking lot at Cajun Field that caused nothing but gravel to get ripped up so understeering issues were abound due to "track" surface.

I wasn't able to get pics of all the cars i wanted to because i wanted to record my laps, however we couldn't figure out how to secure the camera (sorry Al, i wasn't able to get shots of the "Team Laughing Stock" Mini)

But i hope you enjoy what i was able to catch while i was working the corners

Ferrari badged shifter kart: (just for looks i'm sure)

E30 M3: (ARMAN, keep your hands on the keyboard!!!)

BMW Z3 3.0 Coupe:

Datsun 510:

Nissan 350Z's:

SR20DET powered 240SX: (kid and his dad build these locally)

MG 6 powered by a Chevy 400Cid destroked down to a 386 pushing 600+ HP at the wheels

C5 Corvette and Z06:

C2 Corvette: (constructed out of lightweight material. Only weighs 1500Lbs)

Mitsubishi Lancer:

I think there was an EVO VIII as well, but the pics didn't come out, along with the 2 open wheel racers.

All in all it was a fun day

Autocrossing is always an exciting activity. When you can take part like you did ZfrkS62, that's even better. I find your lap time very fast despite it wasn't your own car.

Cheers !

auto-x is an awesome sport. i got into it using my bros 1999 Honda Civic SI. It is alot of fun and can teach you how your car will react to certain situations. I stopped doing it over here in Melbourne, because it was $20 and you only got 4 runs, each run was about 40 seconds or so. And u were stuck there all day. It was good fun though.

I really love the autocross portion of Live for Speed. Im addicted to that game thanks to u guys!

well, this cost $35 and got 4 runs, but my final lap time was a 71.675. Not bad for my first autocross i'll grab the track layout tomorrow and post it.

Before the next event (which may be in August, depending on wether we want to drive over an hour to get to it  ) I'm going to rig up a mount for my camera and take my laptop so i can upload the runs and post them here

hell yea, the incar vids are always cool. 35 bucks is kinda expensive though. and it is really habit forming, because it is soo much fun... Do u have a website with all the other competitors times posted?

www.scca.com <= Click on "solo" should have the info you seek 8) Not something i could get THAT involved in. If i'm going to run around the country racing with the SCCA, i damn well better be doing it on actual courses

More than anything though, this thing attracts a freaking insane amount of Miatas

yea it does. one of my best friends has a Miata that he has all done up for auto-x. i finally convinced him to do a track day, so i think that he might be more into the track days now. It deffanitly attracts a ton of Miatas and Hondas though. Over here there are a suprising amount of guys in Corvettes, Evos and STis. I dont know about over there though.

here it's about 95% Miatas. They're in just about every class somehow There were a small handful of Hondas there. Including one early 70's Civic, two or three S2000's, a last gen Prelude, a 98 Civic and 3 early 90's Hatchbacks. There were a few Acuras there as well, but the Miata's were definetly in the majority

hey I just went to one of these at the old AMC proving grounds here in Wisconsin and I took some pics but they are crappy as hell. We are actually in the process of acquiring a small car to turn into a Solo 2 car prfereably a Miata then dropping in a small block chevy.

That's about the fastest way into the E-Modified class

Exactly Go check out the vid i posted a while back in the VV with the Camaro ( he has since sold it and ran his E21 320i this year )

@ ARMAN- He said you would take 12,000 for it (USD of course) massive suspension set up and front seats beautifully recovered )
