The reason is the differential. The Euro cars would get a 3.25 diff while the US one would get a 4.10 diff. The same still applies...

Why? Because there is no highway where its legal to cruise at 150mph at any time whereas germany has the oh so revered Autobahn....
That was a very good explanation. It had to be the gearing, but I couldn't come up with such a good reason for i to be that way.
