I have about zero interest in this film. I think I'll watch Ben Stein's flick this w/e if I have time.

Didnt you get the memo.. Its better to turn our child hood memories into a fast and the furious clone then to do something good.

its very over the top but so was the cartoon. i remember seeing an episode where they were seeing who could jump over the most cars and it was a stack of cars like 50 high.In the cartoon the cars could fly/glide and speed had circular saw blades that came out of his bumper. so, idk what you would expect from a movie of it. it could never be a serious racing movie.

lmao, yep that quite sums it up...except they'll be using inspector gadget's gizmos instead of throwing shells at each other.

And should've remained a cartoon. Thanks for reinforcing my point.
If it wasn't bad enough, it's based on a Japanese cartoon. If I remember correctly, one of the later remakes had Speed Racer travel through time looking for artifacts known as Wheels of Ezekiel.

thank you gigdy you're the first person to quote something i wrote.
and I don't think this movie can even be compared to "the slow and the curious".
its just not related at all.

Just watched the 7 minute preview. Confirms my fears. It's a caricature of racing culture. Almost insulting. F1+NASCAR+drifting on acid. "Cute" is as far as I'll go to complimenting it.

Oh, and if you do watch it, you'll notice a cameo appearance by that hideous Peugeot 4002 concept.

Hahaha. Excellent. Negative reviews are coming in. Including titles such as "No, Speed Racer, No" and "Go, Speed Racer, Go Away".
Narrowing your eyes against the strobe effect, you make out three movie stars: John Goodman, Susan Sarandon, and Christina Ricci, cheering Speed on from the impossibly vast stands that rise up from the racetrack (so vast they recall footage of Nazi rallies, but no time to think about that now).

Not only that, PETA is accusing the trainer of savagely beating the chimpanzee during filming in Germany.
