What goes bump in the night......??

If it does go bump in the night just hope your not in Australia cos it could any one of a number of things some of which we got to look at today for zoology ie reptiles and marsupials so enjoy.. some were kinda freaky.....
PS excuse my ignorance, ive already forgotten some of reptiles names.

okay this guy was hilarious, he tried to make a bolt for the woods lol (the handler had to go all steve irwin on his arse!!)
cool thing was he started off bright orange/red and moved down to a duller/ grayerorange to match the guys shirt and skin





this one i think is a species of komodo dragon this ones only a baby .. they do get LARGE (handler said he saw one crawl out of a cow after eating it form the inside out.. it had a massive GUT)

the next ones quite well known.. frill neck lizard... funny thing about these guys is they dont frill up unless scared.... in which case theyll jump up on their back legs and run stright at you! (it happend to a friend of mine ... it ran up is shoulder!!)

uy.. even though only quite small for a snake... is the deadliest of ALL snakes.. the western taipan ... luckily this one was quite tame

this is a carpet python.. can get quite large, this ones still a juvinlie. it was hilarious when the handler put it on the ground and it headed stright towards this girl in the crowd!!!



this snake is a rainbow python (because of the way the scales shine in sunlight) its also known for being the snake with the largest body mass for its size/length.. in other words its a fat bastard.. imprssive though


this next snake is quite peculiar because of its very loose skin... looked like it had just eaten a rhino and hasnt quite restored its shape

TURTLE!!!!


okay even though this guy is quite small.. i know for a fact its teeth are fucking SHARP (ive been studying the jaws in labs.. ill show some pics in another post) he is a fresh water crocodile (not is vicious as a salt water one) although he did wriggle a hell of alot...




okay thats just about all the reptiles we were shown except for a blue tounge (my photo was shite)

ill be back in a couple of mins to post the marsupials (there are some funky ones here too) and a couple of birds

I have most of these animals as pets in my apartment.

I did seriouly have one of those goanna's (komodo thing) in my backyard when I was growing up. It was a 6 acre property and it used to roam around digging into the termite mounds - and scaring the shit out of our cats.

komodo's rock, they were called a dragon because of their siliva which was full of bacteria and toxins, which made it burn like hell if it bites you rather than it being an actual fire breather......

ah their not all that bad lol i think eveything can kill you except some sheep

ill show a couple of marsupials.. their relatively harmless

just so you know the handler had to show these after the snakes... cos if the handler had smelt like a possum or a bird.. the snakes would take him out....

this is a spotted possum... and apparently it has sharp teeth


this rather odd looking bird i think is called a tawny frog faced bird.. or somehting to that description


This bird is a Crested hawk/falcon... unlike other birds of prey.. it eats insects and fruit.. but go the talons!!

this fat guy is a tasmanian possum.. its ALBINO!!!


okay this is a pygmy possum.. (all the ladies go awwww) and yes even i have to admit it was rather cute....

look it even has the big eyes!


heres anther cute one, the flying possum, much like a flying squirrel, it glides rather than flies using a skin/membrane that joins the front and hind legs... oh and the girls loved the fur (they got to touch it).

okay.. its not quite a rat.. nor a kangeroo... its a quoll... Go the ausi naming system!



i think thats about it, ididnt get any pics of a tiny shrew and a couple of geckoes so i didnt miss much, great day though wish my other lectures were as good

Palm Island is the most dangerous place outside of a war zone.... and its not because of the animals
