Default What do you think of a E55 AMG with the CL65 engine instead

Once BMW is going to launch a 507bhp light new BMW M5(the power of this segment is going up more and more indeed), Audi will probably get a more powerful RS6, and Jag could get a more powerful S type as well.....and once merc or AMG is thinking of getting a more powerful and efficient E55 AMG, and once as well im a big fan of merc, do people think that merc should launch a E65 exactly with the same engine as the CL65 accompanied with CL65 gearbox, the CL65s brakes, some set up in the suspension,..........

In my opinion merc are capable of getting an accomplished car (although 612bhp means a lot for a E shape, the E class range has a brilliant chassis), as long as they set up correctly the electronic gadget of the car (the suspension, the brakes, the traction control....)......i found a weakpoint to the every current AMG merc though,....they dont have any mechanical differential able to work when the ASR and ESP are disconnected on purpose, and for me they should have it as the E39 M5 has......anyway......im waiting your opinion about this modification

I think the E55 chassis and drivetrain would need a significant amount of strengthening in order to manage the enormous torque and power of the engine, and aside from the fact that the car is lacking a LSD, they are only available in automatic form which takes a huge chunk of fun out of driving. I don't think that it's a necessary change, or even a particularly desirable one, however, I wouldn't be surprised if it comes to pass.

I think that they should put the SLR-engine in the E-Class. That would be a riot.. And how about an SLK 65?

I think the E65 might suffer the same way the CL65 does...almost the same power to weight ratio for the big engined car as for the small engined version. Even though the CL65 has 612hp, it also weighs 4750lbs, while the CL55, which only has 120 less hp, weighs about 400lbs less. Of course that doesn't totally off set the power gains, but it sure puts a dent in them. So basically, the huge power of the CL65 is good for passing and effortless acceleration at higher speeds...well, until you hit that 155mph speed limiter.

I think the E65 is going to end up weighing about 400-500lbs more, and in the real world, where traction is a big factor it won't be any faster in a straight line (except at higher speeds where it definitely will be) and it will probably end up being slower around the corners with the extra weight up in the nose...

I think merc has all the power they need. What they have to do is focus on the handling and weight reduction. They also REALLY need a good manual transmission for their cars!

i dont like the idea really, the 65 AMG label should stay on the flagships of the class. i.e. the SL is the best of the roadsters, the CL is the best of the coupes and the S is the best of the sedans. the only real reason to use the E65 would be to dethrone the new M5, but the price and the rarety wouldnt really make it a direct competetor. plus im sure it would handle like crap compared to the M5. especially with an extra 400 lbs like you guys are saying.

I don“t know if I read it here or somewhere else that a guy was in a dealership in Germany where they had an E65 AMG and they said that for the moment thay were only buildong a very small number of cars for special customers but they would probably be making them in the future.
