hmm, when speaking with a McLaren representative, they told me that the ceramic brakes of the SLR were created, installed and treated by MB and McLaren, not by AMG.
I wonder if AMG were testing some non-SLR brakes and that they were producing the "big and huge" problems. A bit more clarification would be nice as I don't really know what the problems are from your post. Was it brake fading? Bursting up in flames? You know, that kinda stuff... I've read and seen so many reviews of the SLR and the brake system that apparently, whilst a bit too sudden, is extremely good at stopping the car. Perhaps there's different brakes for the car depending on the market?
So anyway, from what I spoke with the McLaren representative, it's not AMG or MB that works on an SLR, but usually a specific technician using their own tools and bits and pieces. So I don't really know where the AMG team comes into this... *confusion*
