Help with installing XP

I always had W98 and have NO idea how to install/uninstall Windows, my brother or buddy did ops: so I am a complete
What should I do first, should I uninstall all programs first thru "install/uninstall program", what should I backup(some settings or so), how to format disc, how to install etc. etc. etc.

I have C and D discs only +E(CD) so all files(vids and so I have on D)

If there is any site with this kid of manual, please post the URL.

I got internet connection somehow thru ethernet adapter(all flats in the house are connected thru 1 line, when lots of people in the howse are on net you got slower speed) and the guy when he was setting it up just set up IP adress. ummm where I can find that IP adress to right it down so I can connect to the net later 8)
