Again thanks dingo22. it is really amazing what this car was capable of so long ago. I have read several articles that describe this as the best handling Porsche ever and potentially the best handling car ever. I was surprised that the gearbox had none of the problems associated with later versions of the 915 gearbox. Strange that Porsche was able to get the gearbox right on the 2.7 RS and then later cars had a very vague feeling shifter until Porsche went outside to have Borg Warner manufacture the G50 transmission in 1987.
The 2.7 RS is a testament of the affect of weight on a cars performance in both handling, acceleration and braking. If I could have my way every Porsche would come devoid of the power features that have added so much weight over time like power windows, mirrors, seats and locks. Who really needs these? Ill tell you it is those who want to be seen in a Porsche not those that really want to drive one

The 3.2L CS was a nice attempt to recapture that flavor in a 911 by shaving 220 lbs. but by then the 911 had gained 340-480 lbs. due to regulations and increases in engine size and associated strengthening of transmissions, brakes and suspensions.
Personally, I think that the 2.7 RS is one of the best looking cars and Porsches of all time. Aesthetically speaking I would prefer it without the ducktail but you cant argue with the performance benefits the ducktail spoiler added.
