Looks like all the mods came into play in the high end. M6 didn't seem to have much on the Z06 until about 160mph. After all those mods...I'm betting the Z06 was only about 1/2 to 3/4 the cost of the M6...that Z06 kicks ass.

Not really surprising that the M6 pulled away. But let's see what happens if you take that Z06 to Lingenfelter Performance Engineering and get it modded to 630bhp NA for under $9,000. You'll get a completely different video, I can tell you that.

Why not put the title as Modded M6 vs Stock C6 Z?

to be honest considering the M6 is quite modded it did pretty crappy.fast no doubt but the Z06 matched it till a very high speed.get those mods on the Z06 and im sure the roles would be reversed

Damn, all the way up to 180! Pretty cool race, but not doubt the Z06 could stomp the M6 with similar money invested in mods...

Actually with just a tune and set of headers the Z06 would be putting more than 480hp to the ground - and I am willing to bet this "race" would have had a diff. outcome had the Z06 driver actually pushed his car.
Slow shifts and starting at low revs really took its toll.
The M6, like most Eurocars, comes with the engine tuned to its upper performance envelope - The Viper, Vette and Ford GT come from the factory with engines relatively "under tuned" and are only at the lower end of their performance envelope.

Even if your comment about Eurocars coming pushed to upper level isnt true, it is true they are pushed further than their American counter parts why is that...
I have trouble understanding why they dont take the vette the gt and the viper further as they have only been scratching what the engines can do with the right massage....
I dont think its because the engineers cant do it as almost any hillbilly who anything about engines can get more from them in his shed.....
So why is it, do you know the reason for this RC?

Simple.
Why should you sell a product that is stressed to within an inch of its life? What does that prove? An M5/6 V0 is great engineering - but really only for engineering sake. They cos a fortune to repair, maintain and manage - they ar every susceptible to failure if any one of the complex...
...a fuckit - why bother - you and the rest of the "jw clique" will just turn thisi into another argument.
This has been proven time and time again to be a euro-car forum.. have at it -- everythign euro is perfect - everything else is shit.

Cheaper, it costs money to build a more highly stressed engine. Case in point, how much does a 500hp M6 engine cost vs. a 500hp C6 Z06 engine? I think there are advantages and disadvantages to both approaches, although having lots of power for cheap is pretty nice.
And yes it may be easy to extract more power out of the Vette engine or FGT engine, etc. but it would no doubt increase the cost of the motor. Even if aftermarket parts cost only a small amount, to get that same increase from the factory would cost more because of more rigourous testing, etc. requited of OEM parts (and those cheap V8 mods such as exhaust, headers, cams would probalby ruin the motor's ability to meet sound restrictions and also kill that nice mpg).
RC or some other American car guys correct me if I'm wrong...

Either way, even an M6 with it's stock hp level (but speed limiter removed) will beat a stock C6 Z06 where it really matters: on the autobahn and flat out (205-210 mph vs. ~195 mph).
So even if the Z06 gets the jump initially, he'll get that limp dick (except they all use viagara, right?), with gold chain, fake blond with her fake cans, feeling eventually. On the autobahn at least, top speed rules!

Yes I also tought of the cheaper argument, but it wouldnt cost that much more to get more ponies from the American V8`s and sound restictions and such are something all cars have to meet being Euro, Jap or American....
There are 2,2 litre cars running around here pushing 500hp and still meeting regulations regarding sound, and thats with home buildt exhaust systems.....
So if people can build them here the engineers at chevy ford and dodge should be able without pushing the price up to high....?
But to sum it up in your opinion, the reason for not getting more power form the engines are the manufactors sells the cars unrefined to make them cheap?
It explains the poor interiors of American cars tough....
|
All I meant about exhaust is, if you put on an aftermarket exhaust that gives say 20hp its may not be road legal anymore in terms of noise levels.
In my opinion they sell the engines in a lower tune and generally less complex than their European/Japanese counterparts to keep the initial cost down. So I guess unrefined, maybe more like: cost effective. But I like all engines if they are sporty and make nice sounds. 8)

blah blah blah.
You guys might be surprised how many FGT's are out there with 100% stock internals running 30-40% power gain's with TONS of miles under those midifications... only once you start getting 800 rwhp do you really start needing beefed up connecting rods and such... the bottom end is still stock on Joe's 1500+ hp TT GT.... as is MUCH of the overall engine as well.... but at that point, there is a lot that is changed.... but running 400% power gains when you are already dyno'd at 535 rWHP.... yeah, its quite different then running 400% power gain from 140 hp
