Keep in mind that he most likely wasn't side ways the whole turn. That is the entry point of the turn where you "should" (like any [good] racing driver) rotate the car as quickly as possible, literally "throwing" the car into the turn.
And at tthat point is where you want to put the power on to exit out of the corner.
In a Audi you will exit the corner at amazing speeds, in a RWD if you floor it out of a corner like that you will loose speed as you get even more sideways at the exit.
