I wouldn't say that it's 100% accurate, but that's pretty fast: almost M3 fast in fact.

Very impressive indeed. In swedish tests the automatic hit 100km/h in 5.3sec so I guess this would be marginally faster. Chiptuned or maybe a slightly pumped up pressdemonstrater?
Still it shows the potential of this "M3 light". Add an LSD and who needs an M3

well, I think that's a bit fast......a bit too fast.
I don't think the car can do it in 4,8 secs. Maybe it was going just a bit downhill.

My friend pointed this out to me the other day. The top of the line 3 Series in each new generation will be close to the performance levels of the old M3.
E36 328i/is was close to E30 M3
E46 330i/ZHP was close to E36 M3
E92 335i should be close to the E46 M3

The device they use is actually pretty good (Gtech RR). I used to sell serious performance timing gear, and compared to my $$$ GPS datalogger this unit is within 1/10s 0-100 kph in a variety of cars. Amazing value, five years ago you would have to pay £1K for this kind of presicion.
As for the 335i; its fast and has massive in-gear speed, but it does'nt thrill like the M3 does. The new M3 is going to have to be intense to top this 8)

IMHO, this is the time from 0-60. As we know 100 km/h are more like 62 mph so I think this is accurate nevertheless.
Anyway I think this is really fast and we can only image how fast the M3 is going to be!
p.s. don't forget that's an automatic gearbox, which really surprises me.............. in a good way

Wow I never realized that.. If only they could keep the original weight of the E30.

The great equalizer will be bwhen he rolls up to a Z06 or Viper SRT/10 or a 911TT and gets blown away... then they will turn to a 911C4 or a C6 COoupe and also get blown away
This happens all the time in Houston.. with M3's

But whats the big deal ? The E46 has a 6 cyl 333hp, why getting blown away by a 8 cyl 400 hp with tons more torque or a 430hp Turbo is such a big deal ?
Then again if the C6 Z06, 997 Turbo or SRT/10 will blow the M3, the again its a 8 cyl 500 hp, Turbo 480 hp and 10 cyl 500 hp vs a luxury 400 hp...

The 335i is already putting down over 350 hp to the wheels with a simple chip and exhaust system. Evo Tech will be selling the setup for about 3,000 and the car will do 0-60 in 4.3 sec. The new M3 is already pointless.

good point ae86.
no matter how fast the viper or Z06 are, the M3 is STILL a sick car.
