What kind of new vehicle would you like to see soon?

Hello everyone. I was asking myself this question as I was shifting through my car magazines, and I was wondering: "why are all the companies milking the same product niches?"

I mean, you've got the hatchback, the four-door sedan; with its luxury and sporty guise, the front-engined, RWD GT, the mid-engined supercar, the SUV, the mini-SUV, the family estate (touring), etc. etc.

These are all product niches that have been around for more than 15 years, and I really haven't seen anything new or groundbreaking, save probably for Mercedes-Benz's Concept GST (The R-class), and the upcoming CLS-class.

The last interesting vehicle concept I can remember was Toyota's 2004 MTRC-Concept single-seater vehicle (the one inspired by an F1 car).

So I ask you... what kind of "new" car (at least a new spinoff on the current product lines) would you like to see in the near future?

Personally, I would like to see more of Stylish estates, like the Volvo V50, all of the Audi Avants, and VW Passats in US. So...performance version of Dodge Magnum, new Audi A6 Avant, A4 Avant, A8 Avant, Saab 9-3 Estate, Conti Shooting Brake (if evermade), and I would like Chevy to revive the Nomad concept even though ot failed miserably in American marketing focus groups.

Personally I would like to see more cars in the vein of Caterham or Elise ....

- Light
- Manual transmission
- Excellent brakes and handling
- limited list of features to cut down weight
- etc.

I am not saying that all cars should be like this but many cars could go for the "Club Sport" treatment.

I dont like the way that cars are getting porkier wvery year and this becomes a vicous loop: more luxury mean more more weight requires more power means more weight.

Take the M5 for example .. I would galdly give away 100hp if it meant dropping 800 lbs.

I know that the weight is due to better build quality safety and increased electonics.

Personally if I could afford it I would have two cars in my garage for myself:
- My 01 S4 - for the luxruy + day to day needs
- A 04 Elise or 84 308 GTB - for fun + simplicity + did I mention fun

I'd like to see a vehicle that can get 50 mpg of either gasoline or diesel, and still has 0-60 mph times of 8 seconds or below and 1/4 mile times of 16 or below. And this vehicle must be spacious enough for 4, hold luggage, and be safe enough to drive in the USA with all these idiot SUV driving soccer moms and knuckle heads. and this vehicle should look good and be under $15,000.

I'd like to see a pure performance affordable spors car. Nothing with fancy gadgets or automatic transmissions. Just a car with a good engine, nice handling and a good manual transmission. I'm thinking a car like the F-40 but cheaper. Something that you can just go out and drive and have fun.

^^ exactly, or a mini ultra-light ferrari with a 3.0 v6 TT engine, or a state ferrari with a v8 TT, i know is not the ferrari tradition but it would be nice, although i couldnt buy one, or a mitsu super-car that could be affordable, with rally features

You know what i'd really like...

A single seater car, with a small 6 cyl engine in front, with FWD, retro looks, manual sequencial transmission...w/ a small boot... Maybe made of fibreglass(cheap) and a nice, little steering wheel.... a great car to do rallies in (like the classic rallies, not necessarily the dirt and mud ones, but them too if possible ) and able to throw around for fun like a Mini..but faster..

Like a track day car to be used on the road too...

One can dream right?

I'd like to see Acura bring the Legend coupes back, although I'd agree with Sachmo12345 that bringing back the Supra would definitely be a plus.

Like the first Noble M12 GTO? Or more like the Lotus Elise? Or even a Catherham?

I like snackys car. Not that I think that anything near it will be available any time soon. It is basically a semi-fast european saloon with lower fuel consumption, and huge price cuts...
