Am i screwed? :S *help*

hey,
i have an ipod as u know and i have like 1 G on music on it but i had to form at my computer as u guys know so i now nly have the songs in the ipod not in the computer and when i wat to update my song on to the ipod that stupid program itunes tells u that how i dont have all the songd anymore the program thinkg im in a new computer so it tellm me it has to erase all the songs i have on th eipod and just put on the ones i have which i dont think its worth it because i have borrowed cds in the ipod which is hard to get again and all that
so if anyone knows a way to put songs on it without erasing the old ones pleallse tell me anything helps alot.

If you are using XP... go into the iPod folder and show hidden files (Tools--->Folder Options--->View--->Show hidden files and folders)

There is a file called iPod Control.... the songs are all in there. Copy them onto your HD and sort them out... they have some very short naming system with no particular order so you will have to rename the files, but the ID3v tags vill still be on the files... so just import into iTunes and update your iPod

Can't you put the songs on the iPod into the computer, and then put all of them back again.. Not that I have a iPod, but can't you use it as a hard drive without iTune prog???

its not that simple with the ipod you have to get another program i think its called podutil and then i think you might be able to put the songs on the ipod on the comp im not 100% though

That's what i just suggested

BUT -- the songs are not arranged easily on the actual Ipod they are in 20 different folders (i can't remember and don't feel like docking the ipod just now ).

The Tags that contain song/artist/genre info are still embedded in the files, so just drag them off the iPod and import them to iTunes then update the iPod

You can set iTunes so that the songs are manually managed. I keep all my music on the iPod and not on my Powerbook. Just drag and drop. It is in the prefernces, when the iPod is connected and mounted on your desktop. There should be a button on the bottom right hand corner of the iTunes program window to access the iPod's prefernces.

However, I agree with thenumber1, I don't like the way iTunes arranges the music on the hard drive.

Other apps you could try are ephPod and Xplay perhaps. I haven't used either, so can't comment about the merits or disadvantages.
iPodlounge is very active, and has a section listing software.
