I just read this, it was in the Sunday Times, but as ever it takes an eternity to read
He was very funny in this article, but did not review the car fairly.
I think this was written to entertain, and not to inform a prospective buyer.

Well,
Clarkie's column in TimesOnline is a mustread for me every sundaymorning.
And although I'm a Volvo man I agree with Clarkie wholeheartedly when it comes to the V50 :fadein:

All his columns in the Sunday Times are like that , he just says what he thinks about the car , if the info is usefull or not for you is not his main preocupation

Clarkson rules - but not this time. I have driven the V50 with all available engines and the sdiesel with manula gearbox is almost as fast as T5. Quite quick (for diesel) too, I had a nice little race on some hilly, twisaty roads with Mondeo TDCI and Volvo is faster. And the engine is extremely quiet. He doesnt say which diesel did he drive but it seem it was the 1,6 liter, not the 2 liter?????

"Instead they have to use one that came out of a cement mixer. The result is 0-60mph in around two years and a top speed that only just counts as movement. "

In the specs at the end of the article it says that the volvo is RWD. That is a misprint correct? Should be FWD.

Well, Clarkson is an entertainer. Most of the time anyway. I think he exaggerates his criticism just to make it a bit funnier.
He is funny, but I don't think the V50 is that bad...
