Default Ring Taxi lap(story) and **Vid Clip Added**

***NOTE- added a vid clip my sister took using a digi cam from the back seat. In no way does it convey a nice filming job but instead gives you the idea of the thrashing you get in the BMW M5 Ring Taxi***

Well sorry for the late post as this took place on June 11th but having the family over and being their personal tour guide has left me busy and exhuasted.

First off June 11th was a great day as far as weather. It was HOT and sunny with nothing but blue skies here in the Eifel region. Started the day off in Bernkastel-Kues showing the fam around when at around 11 AM my wife received a call from the Ring Taxi office telling us that the track had been closed for 2 hours already due to a major accident and that all time slots were pushed back in accordance. We could either wait or reschedule the laps. No option for me to reschedule so i say wait it out. Our appointment (had 2 taxi tickets for the 6 of us) was 3 PM. They tell us to get there at 3:30-4 PM. We get there around 3:30 to find out the track is still closed. In the end the track finally opened after being closed for something like 5.5 hours because of whatever happened(no one would say). It's now 7 and we are behind 4 more groups yet to go when the announcement comes over the speakers from track control that there was another incident and the track is CLOSED. Now i am furious...not at the Ring people or Ring Taxi agency but the idiot who crashed his car!! Worst part it was a 2 car accident(rear ender). Polizei is called out to make a report and the "big boss" is called up to the track to determine if the Ring Taxi customers will be able to finish out the day even after the track has officially closed to "tourist laps" It was cool to speak to the track boss and joke around with him, or more like it he joked around with us but he was cool and let the 4 remaining groups go on a completely emtpy Nueburgring Nordschliefe with nothing but 2 BMW M5's duking it out. Sabine was first to go followed by Karl Heinz with my sisters and wife as passengers. Finally, Finally after many hours of standing-by it was my turn(2nd time in the Ring Taxi, first was July 2005) along with my father and mother. Again Sabine was lead car and Karl-Heinz, our driver, followed. Since track was empty and free for the BMW drivers to do as they please we tore straight out of the gate which doesnt happen during open hours. The lap was smooth and fast it was also dizzying as i rode back seat this time holding a vid-camera. All in all it was worth it once again...even though i had to wait extra hours, the empty track provided for even a high speed run in which Karl-Heinz hit 275 Km/h on the final straight. Again, something that isn't done during opening hours. Enough of my long drawn out story here are a few snaps of the day.

Quick note though, Karl-Heinz is a Policeman (German Polizei) would hate to be chased by him given the right squad car.

Sabine (front) Karl-Heinz (behind)

Waiting for the "green"

He's glad to be back at the start

The lovely Sabine Schmitz signing my ticket.

Hey dude! nice story! i was also there that weekend driving an Alfa Romeo 75 (maybe you saw them), but you're right about the accident...the ring was closed for almost 4 hours!! There were 2 or 3 deaths that day

Great to hear about the Ringtaxi! I had a grin on my face from ear to ear after the lap. Wasn't this your third time by now? I reckon it never ceases to be incredible!

On the downside though, like rickstah already mentioned, the delay was caused by a horrific series of accidents resulting in two fatalities...

Thanks guys. Yeah the Ring Taxi is always amazing no matter how many times, but this has only been my second time so far and the wife and I do plan on attending again next year...just because why the hell not?

As for the accident very tragic. Many peoples lives changed within a few blinks of an eye. Thanks Stradale, now I know.
