The top picture is the "____Spirit". I am blanking on the first word, but it was the last batch of RX-7s produced.

It is the 2002 Mazda RX-7 Spirit R. That's what supercars.net says anyway.

That's correct. It has slightly different brake rotors (same size), red calibers, carbon fiber recaro seats that were custom made in a narrow width to fit the rx7 interior, custom BBS wheels, 'soft finish' interior plastics, black leather and carpeting with red stitching, and a couple other unique touches.

Oldsnail you're right there aren't many 3rd gen rx7s (aka FDS). In total about 15,000 were imported to the US. I think the first gen in the pictures above looks great.

No. The first was the 1999 Type-RS, the blue car pictured above. The increase is due to more efficient turbo chargers. The turbos use an abraded seal design. The seal starts as a solid connection between the turbine wheel and housing. The wheel is then broken free and spun up to an extremely high rpm. This creates a very tight seal which, in addition to a slightly different wheel trim, is supposed to make the turbos about 15% more efficient. Mazda continued to sell the 265hp rx7 with the standard turbos along side the Type-RS from 99 on. A friend of mine recently converted from the std turbos to the type-rs turbos. According to him the biggest difference isn't the absolute power, but the rate at which they build boost.

I still think the best solution is a ball bearing single turbo. My friend has a GT3540 on his car and it produces over 400rwhp (about 470hp at the crank) and 365lb/ft of torque, yet it spools up at about the same time as the stock turbos do.

Why exactly did they stop sellin rx7s in the US? The Spirit R looks amazing and i love the different style headlights and the rear spoiler. I hope if they ever replace it with another 7, it will be just as good as the old one.

Engine Seizures was what Mazda reported. Something faulty with the US compliant version.

That's total crap. You don't know what you're talking about. Mazda reported that???-Lets see the source.

Here's a little question to ponder. Why did the supra TT, MR2 turbo, 300zx turbo all leave the market around the same time the RX7 did? Was it because of some outside factor, or did that engine seizing problem you spoke of spread like a plague?

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but in the future if you feel compelled to make a statement of FACT make sure you have a credible basis for it. In addition to looking like an ass, you're mis-informing people. If that's not reason enough to be more careful, what you just said can be considered as defamatory under US law.
