yeah i saw this before... i quite like it style-wise, although the cockpit will have to be a bit higher than the fenders; this way, the driver has just about 0 vision to the diagonals. A higher cockpit would also make the car slightly more roadcar-like, which is the way the ACO would like to see the prototypes look from 2010 on (if the plans work out, and the cars are more recognisable as racing cars that were made by roadcar manufacturers, i'm sure it will bring a LOT more attention to Le Mans)

Interesting, but what's the deal with the blingbling diamond headlights?

i guess its LED, audi seems pretty keen on showing off the LED lights on the front as well (instead of just at the back like most manufacturers) so i wouldnt be surprised of they would incorporate some on their racecars... no way LEDs will be anywhere near powerful enough to provide a safe viewing distance at night doing 335 kph (and possibly even more since these cars will be bigger on speed and lower on aero again)... to my knowledge LEDs arent that advanced yet...

Actually, LED's can pump out some serious light. It isn't cheap though.

dirty secret

LED's are cheaper then bulb lights, and cheaper to make/manufacture

Proof please?

The only time that LED's are cheaper than bulbs is over time. Since LED's last for a hell of a lot longer.

LED look really cool on this "R15". Audi will offer full LED headlamps in the near future on many models.

Here what they can do:

^^^^^^Obviously, I very like open-top racecars like the R8 and R10 which are the modern reminessence of the famous open-top Auto-Union, but I enormously like prototype racecars with a roof like the awesome Porsche 956/962 and Porsche 917K. So I don't have any problem with the new rules adopted by the ACO require a closed cockpit car by 2010. :bah:

Why not, because the actual Audi R10 TDI have already LEDs lights on it.

Looks really really good. THis R15. I do prefer the closed cars instead of the open prototypes, so for me this is a one of the most beautifull cars in the field.

About the LED-technic. Off course they will use it in the R15. In the R8 for the streets they will introduce full-LED-headlights later this year. So Audi is ready for it, and allready uses it on, for example, the S6.

i really love how this thing looks more like a normal road car than the first concept, but unless the rules specifically provide in a cockpit like that, it's not going to happen, the teardrop cockpit from the 1st concept creates less lift and is therefore faster... a cockpit shaped as car-like as this was part of the problem with some late '90s GT1 cars doing a backflip ('99 Mercedes CLR / '98 Porsche 911 GT1)... the best compromise i can come up with at the moment is a slightly tapered rear glasshouse/cockpit combined with a higher rear deck than on this concept, somewhat like the corvette:

that way there's still room for a car-like cockpit without the aerodynamical drawbacks of the new concept shown here.

i really hope Gordon Murray (who is tasked with writing the rules for the Le Mans Prototype coupés) will make sure the road car connection is preserved... and styling cues can do alot, i like the R8 (roadcar)-like air intake panels on the side although for a proper audi look, the "goatee"grille and headlights of the 1st concept would be better than this rather nondescript front end I think...
