Default Pilgrimage to the 'Ring (17-18 sept.)!

Hi guys, long time no see.

Finally, it's going to take place: my first visit to the Nordschleife. I will be there from the 17th till the 18th of september. It would be nice to know who will be going too, so maybe we can meet up. I already saw that Wutputt will be there.

You guys have no idea how much I'm looking forward to this! Oh well, maybe you do.

Too bad, maybe another time then. I feel sorry for you, man. Must be awful, facing a Ferrari-filled weekend...

I know I will have fun, but I'm trying to keep my enthusiasm in check. I already have a constant drone in the back of my head (Nürburgring, Nürburgring, Nürburgring, Nürburgring...) and if that goes on for another two weeks it might even disappoint. Like with an excellent film that everyone has been raving about. No matter how good it is, you were expecting better.

We're going with a friend's car, an E36 320i. I don't know whether I will do any laps, but I certainly hope so. We haven't exactly talked about that yet. I reckon he can't resist the temptation himself and then it would be very selfish of him to not let us have a go at it. We'll see...

I already drove his car (and liked it a lot), but I understand that driving it on the Nordschleife is a different thing altogether.

I'm sensible about it, though, And he knows me well enough to know that I am. I already know the safety leaflet by heart and will by no means try to get a good laptime from the car or something. Just taking it easy but feeling what it's like to steer around on the Ring is all there is to it. I know the Ring can be deadly.

I'm hoping to get a ride from some frequent Ringer to get a sense of what it's like to go round at a pace. We will definitely not be trying that ourselves.

So, anyone else going?

If you see some crazy Belgians trashing some diesel engined cars (+ a few ring-worthy cars) around the ring with a BBQ in the back, there is a big change it will be me and a group of friends

Ring-Taxi may be?
Well, as expected, the Ringtaxi is fully booked, but we'll definitely try to get our name on top of the list in case someone who has booked doesn't show up.

@Wutputt, I hope for your sake you don't have the meat for the BBQ in the back of the car as well while you're at the IAA and then for a whole day at the Ring.

Really good idea. And you really have to keep whining to the girl behind the desk (or making advances if you're sexy looking ), that also improves your chances. That's how I got a ride with Sabine without booking.

We will push a cow and a pig in the back of an E46 touring, and slaughter it at the ring, so it really will be fresh meat.

j/k of course. We'll buy our meat in Germany. Plenty of Bratwürste there

Stradale, nice to see you'll be having your long awaited first ring experience shortly. I was planning to go with a some friends of mine in september also, but we haven't set a date yet. Will definitely let you know if it's the same weekend.

As dani said: don't count on driving any other sensible guy's car at the ring. Bring your own (and have your picture taken )!

Bringing my own car might be a problem, as I don't have one. Anyway, we'll see what'll happen at the Ring.

Make sure to let me know if you're planning a visit during the same weekend. Perhaps we can meet up.

P.S.: are you a sensible guy?

Hi Stradale, I don't think I'll be at the ring this weekend (unless a last minute change of plans would happen). Too bad, because the weather promises to be good and this is one of the last weekends where the track wil be open the whole day. I hope you'll have fun.

Should I make it, then look for the car in my avatar, or a Belgian Elise 111s, which is my friend's car.

BTW: I'm way too sensible

Too bad. I hope you can still make it, though. Like you said, the forecasts (although I'm told they're rarely accurate at the Ring) look nice. I think the Elise (nice car your friend owns BTW) will be easier to spot than an E36. There are probably loads of those around.

BTW, we're not going in my friend's 320i. Last weekend on a pre-Nürburgring test of the Beemer's 'autobahnfähigkeit' on a German autobahn a small part of the front bumper fell off and was crushed under its wheels. Strange, yet not terribly alarming. But then earlier this week a warning light came on to announce a large service was needed. Understandably, he now doesn't want to expose it to the stress of 1000 kms and driving at the Ring before it has had its service. Besides, one of our travelling companions needs to be back home sunday evening because he has some important business on monday and he doesn't quite trust the Beemer anymore.

So if you do decide to come, forget about a silver E36, but look for a blue Mitsubishi Galant 2.5 V6 wagon with Dutch plates.

Did I mention I really look forward to my visit?

It was nice meeting you, Stradale, though I didn't had that much time. I really had to take some pics of my friends passing by at Brunnchen (sorry for that)

I didn't had the chance seeing you after it anymore, since in the afternoon bad luck struck again: another friend of mine had engine troubles on the ring. Luckily we were able to get the car intact to a nearby workshop and the car was fixed in half an hour.

Nevertheless I had a great weekend and it sure was fun meeting the guy behind the Stradale nickname IRL

The pleasure was all mine, Wutputt!

Sorry to hear more bad things happened to people in your group. When we got back to Brünnchen around 15.00 hrs, we saw a bunch of guys (didn't see you there) watching someone work on the blue Touring. Did he manage to sort things out in the end?

I'll have a look at your topic on last weekend and I'll add my story below.
