OMG look at what the G-Class Becomes
http://www.autoweek.com/news.cms?newsId=102137
I don't know what Mercedes was trying to pull, but this does not look good. Not only does it lost the original elegant styling, it becomes almost station wagon like shape. Why are they so desperate to update on every single model, the G Wagon has been like that for more than 30 years.

It looks good...
Of course, it's not a G ... but, if you want a good 4x4, you still have the Land Rover Defender!

I like it. I really don't like the box on wheels shape.

I like it, but it's lost all of it's character. This is just a regular 4x4.

It looks just like another SUV. Its boring now. It has no charisma like the old G-class. I say its a bad change. I miss the aggressive boxy G-class. Now we will see this as a soccer mom car.

MB has finally lost it's mind.
The G-Wagon was supposed to look like that - afterall it IS a utility vehicle - granted, the most expensive and exclusive utility vehicle on the planet.
Honesty, what self respecting Colombian Drug Lord or Ultra-Wealthy Sheik with a private army is going to order a battalion of those new G-Wagons?

30 years of legendary looks lost to mainstream soccer mom mall going SUV. And you guys are tell me it looks good. Porsche did a good job in getting an update look while not sacrificing the legendary 911 style, Merc on the other had totally lost it.

i really dont know what to say about the styling of it, i mean its not bad i guess but it does such a disservice to the current/previous G-class it isnt even funny. like it was said before it has no character at all. i guess manufacturers these days will do anything if it means possible profit. even if it means sacrificing the heretage/names of certain models, now i know why the guys are bitching so much about the new charger.

haha yea i agree, just naming it something else would take some of the pain away.

This is not a MLS, not a ML and not a G class. It is the 2006 M Class. I just saw a publicity of it on tv and to me, there is nothing exceptional about it. KIA would be able to do a desing like it!

I liked it, it has a "strong" appearance. But i prefer the new M-Class.

My impressions
1) it looks fairly good for an SUV
2) it looks too similar to the new M class (and it continues a trend that I find detrimental to MB - they're competing with themselves, and they've taken market discrimination to a self-hindering level)
3) It's a shame that they are losing the classic G shape - it was/is such an iconic piece of SUV history...a true representation of the real SUV before the Americanized craze came about and adulterated the market.
