Exclamation Confirmed: Danica Patrick to test for F-1's Honda Team

Nick Fry has confirmed that Danica Patrick will test for F-1's Honda Team. Fry mentions that she'll probably do so at Barcelona or Jerez de la Frontera later in the season.

She claims to be more than ready and up to the challenge, after her victory at IndyCar Series.

What do you guys think abut that?

Great publicity stunt.. I find it near-impossible to come up with a single reason why she would deserve an F1 drive based on her performance or track record however.

Then again.. F1 is business.. And it certainly could appeal to a marketing strategy.

Meh. It's not like Jenson Button (or Honda for that matter) has shown why he deserves a place in Formula One lately.

Heck, she's a good driver, boobs or no boobs. 7th overall in a major open wheel racing league in 2007? Yeah. She's good.

When are American drivers (or non-Americans with experience racing solely in an American series) going to get it through their F1 bedazzled heads that unless you spend at least 2 or 3 years racing in a European or Japanese junior formula and win or place second in that championship you have no business testing an F1 car. Getting an F1 test these days isn't about talent these days anyway. It's a source of revenue for teams who need the money. I have a feeling Honda is feeling the pinch for all the years of mediocre results. Paying Barrichello and Button probably doesnt leave too much money in the budget for the risk-taking engineering it takes to run with the big dogs.
Best of luck to Danica but she's better off staying in the good ole USA where her fan base can support her with regular race attendance.

Yeah, it's really hard to get into F-1 racing without the proper experience, I agree with you on that. But hey, if/when she does the actual testing for Honda F-1, and if she does well or at least average for a rookie in F-1 (Nelson Piquet Jr. as an example), I'll be totally pro her coming to Formula One. It would be nice to have the publicity and to get more people in the U.S. watching F-1. Then, maybe someday, we would be able to watch F-1 on FOX all season long (for the ones that don't have cable like me!).

Yeah but her "Win" was only because the major racers weren't there, so there was no one else that was any good in that race. I don't think she is good enough to deserve a spot in F1 and I think that she is only getting the shot because she is such high press right now. She reminds me of Anna Kornikova in the tennis world, total babe but couldn't play tennis worth a damn.

What are you talking about? Scott Dixon, Helio Castroneves, Dan Wheldon, Marco Andretti, Tony Canaan, etc... all were there for Japan 300.

Anyways, she does consistent top ten finishes most races. That shows that she's a pretty good driver. She just happens to have boobs... and other things...

Then again, she's not a good road course driver, so she's probably not cut out for F1 at all...

Because she's a driver who gets all the attention doesn't necessarily mean that she has to win all the races. It's just that she's so much more easier on the eyes than everyone else.

You're right, it would make things a lot easier on the eyes! She's so damn hot! Hahaha! I think that if she's capable of getting there, she will probably do better than most rookies like Nelson Piquet Jr. that just can't finish the majority of races he goes through. Poor Flavio Briatore... At least I'd hope she could do better than Piquet Jr....

Anna Kournikova reached a peak of eighth in the world. She was no slouch.

I have no issue with Danica Patrick testing an F1 car. Who Honda lets loose on their machines is none of my business. However, if we're talking about progressing to a race spot, no way. She's not even close to the top American open-wheel racers and she's never seen anything else. It'd be a brave man to hire her as a racer.

well 7th overall in the IC series... doesn't really convince me that it would give her the right to drive an F1 car.

but if honda wants to do it, then fine by me

Its a publicity stunt for several reasons:

A) Seb Bourdais didn't have a test with an F1 team only after winning 4 Champ Car Championships
B) All her teammates are better (Kaanan, Andretti, Franchiti [I know he moved but he still is])
C) She just won the first major car race by a female

She is not gonna do well, guarantee 2-3 seconds off pace... if she does better than that Ill go and kiss her ass (wanted to anyway )

Does that mean she'll have pit guys instead of pit babes?

The only reason she is racing is because of her Dad... and the fact she is not ugly... Yeah she races OK, but who wouldn't given the circumstances?

And she only does well when everything is working perfectly.. can't pull shit off when it all goes down..

but whatever, i never watch indy anyway.

That's a very good question! What do they have at IndyCar Racing? Any sort of girls around the cars or is it always a rolling start (boring in my opinion)? I have never watched a single IRL race, as you can probably tell by now...
