PC Protection: NOD32 or Norton?

Hi guys,

I'm about to install XP again and I want to get a new virusscanner. So far I've been using Norton, which was fine. But I've been hearing some very good things about NOD32. I was wondering whether someone has experience with NOD32 and if it's preferable to Norton.

And is it useful to use ZoneAlarm next to Norton or NOD32?

I've got a friend who uses NOD32 and really speaks highly of it.
My experience with Norton was pretty bad, so I switched to AntiVir a while back, which is free, fast, and frequently updated.

I disagree with thamar on ZoneAlarm, I've been using it for years and really like it. It gives you much more control about incoming/outgoing connections than just buying a router would (program specific privelages), and the newer versions really load up quickly. Also, it has a free version, which is more than you can say about buying a router.

With the combination of those two I've never had a problem on this computer.

Whatever you do, DO NOT use Norton. It's just an irritating nanny that can seriosuly spoil your PC's general performance. There are many other one's that are cheaper like Kaspersky, Koala etc.

Id use both zone alarm and a router.. The router only secures incomming, you need something to protect you outgoing if you get a trojan.

yeah norton 2005 or 2006 is a resource hogger. I got NAV Corporate V10.2 this thing is really small and fast. Best Anti Virus ever.

After paying A LOT for a Dual Core Athlon XP2 computer with 2gb XMS Corsair RAM Memory and 76GB 10,000 rpm WD Raptor hard drive, I felt REALLY mad when I could see a small delay in opening programs like Firefox, Word, Photoshop, etc... so then I did countless hours of research to find the best feature/performance I could get.

nlite is a program that strips your Windows XP installer (by this, I mean many features werent ever installed instead of stopping and/or removing them). My windows XP Pro went a diet treatment by removing:

now there is less crap loaded on my computer at startup and lest processes running and the windows folder is smaller than usual.

Thanks for the extended vision into your computer. I was thinking of using Norton Corp too, but now I've decided tot use NOD32 next to ZoneAlarm. So far so good!

^ I can safelly say its not only the 2GB ram, cuz I was using the normal Win XP SP2 before and it took time to load things up. With this lite version of Win XP there are less services and processes going on any particular time. I have not tried NOD32 so I cant compare to Norton corp, but Nortong being 12MB installed, I think thats as good as it gets.
