Default Slow video playback...

A friend of mine's computer was running really slow, so I told him I could fix it..

I thought that the only thing I needed to do was to format the system disk, and reinstall windows, as I always do when my own computer does this to me...

But the problem isn't fixed... I installed the same divx, and xvid codecs that I use myself, but the videos lag as hell.. It's the same with every media player I use..

The strange thing is that his computer is a lot better than mine... In PCMark he got 2600 points, and I only got 1600...

What can be the problem?

Did you update the video card driver as well as DirectX? Check the cpu usage during playback, it may not be cpu related.

Yeah, I installed the newest version of the video card driver, and DirectX 9.0c...

Another thing, his pc was better than mine on all points in pcmark, except from divx- and wmv-playback... He was down on 19 fps in divx...

I know man.. I never say yes to installing things like crack.exe, which I apparantly 'need to install, to be able to do this and that,' and I always have antivirus on.. So no problemo...

And thanks for the prog, I already downloaded one of those, and I'm happy with how it works..

If it's slow on DivX and WMV playback, perhaps it's the video card or soundcard. May I ask what video card or sound card he has? If they're on board (built-in) ones, they could be source of the problem.

Just last week, I had frame drop and audio corruption problem from my TV Tuner recordings. Turned out it was problem with the on board nForce 2 audio. Switched to my other Envy24HT-S card and it's been working fine since then. Okay I did have 3 sound cards in here so it can be a special case ops:
