Default Would you ever tell??

Yesterday i was sat in my car and watched a person in a 4x4 get stuck and try and reverse out.. only to reverse almost straight into the side of another car (she just touched the wing mirror it was that close, another inch or so.. bye bye side window)
now ive had a bin collector truck scrape down the side of my car luckily the old volvo has flared wheel arches with chrome trim, so it was only the chrome that got a few scuff marks- nothing major, however i never chased it up

but the question remains: Would you ever tell the owner or leave a note if you accidently put a scratch or dent in another persons car?.

i can understand its easy to make a mistake ie get into an awkward bit of parking, or simple thing like the super market trolley rolling into someones car.
Obviously most people here are more responsible than the average motorist as we take pride in our cars and skills, thus are more likely to say something in the event of an incident (as you would like the same to be done to you) but still one has to wonder.....
coincidently this is one of the reasons i never park next to large 4x4's

Good question!

I would. The possible consequences of being reported for a 'hit and run' far outweigh the cost of compensating someone for a bit of paintwork.

Not only that, I'm not religious but I certainly believe you should do unto others as you'd have them do to you

Karma is an ugly force. Saadie can tell you all about it

But seriously, I would leave it a note. Only because if someone did it to, I'd want them to leave one too

I would especially after it happened to me twice in 2 weeks last year, minor stuff but a pita and £100 i could have spent elsewhere  on both occasions neighbours left a note, sadly only a partial plate on the one that did the more expensive damage Police didn't give a shit really, which says it all about most peoples attitudes  4x4 drivers are the worst, people who shouldn't even be on the roads get to drive such huge cars

Happend to me just last year.. I was driving my parents Lexus LX470 and I was backing into a tight parking spot but forgot that the car got a very long hook at the end so it went straight into the rear car bumper.. It was a maxima .. So I left him a note and went into the shopping mall.. 20 min latter got a call and I spoke to the guy and I told him what happend and that I will pay for the damage he asked me if I could come to the parking area so I did.. He was an old guy.. I was really imbaresed to be honest bu he shook my hand and we really need more people like you.. He said no to worry about it but he is glad to meet a guy like me.. I had a smile that never left my face for weeks..

I'm glad to see Kant's Categorical Imperative is alive and well on JW

(anyone with a less than obsessive interest in philosophy and ethics won't understand)

Would leave a note to be honest.

I would hate to see someone had damaged my car in anyway, it would be heartbreaking for sure.

So a note with contact deatils is the least you can do, repair the damage for the person.

I'd be so pissed if someone hit my car and didn't stay and wait for me. At the very least leave a note, but only if you absolutely have to. You have to stay, its that simple.
