Default Reckless Driving in an E34 M5

Doesn't get much more reckless than doing donuts around a gas station:

No doubt that it's reckless driving at its best but the gas station wouldn't explode just because a pump gets hit. It's not like in the movies i.e Bullit. Believe me I have worked for Dresser Wayne (a company that produces equipment for gas stations, including pumps).

Ghostbat: Is there any possibility of there being more than just a "thunk" if there was an accident? Just curious. I kind of always assumed that gas stations are pretty darn dangerous to play around with, even at night with everything locked down and no active pumping going on...

If there are a bunch of safety mechanisms in place, maybe it's not that reckless afterall? But even .01% chance of there being a catastrophy, to me, means this guy was being really dumb....

I would have thought they would be quite safe. Everything has to be in america (and increasingly over here) because you/we all sue each other! The fuel is stored in underground tanks and the pumps are simply a pump. I'd have thought there were plenty of saftey valves between pump and tank.

Turning off cell phones is a new warning at gas stations here in the US also. There's a security video floating around (it's been posted here before also), with a chick filling up her truck and talking on the phone, when out of nowhere, there's a fire at the pump handle. Funky. I find it hard to believe, but the theory is that the small amount of electical charge from a cell phone can ignite gas fumes. I heard its much more common for static electricity sparks to ignite the fumes...and that gas-fill-up fires are more common with women because they tend to get back into their cars while filling up on gas, creating more static electricity...

I watched this show called "Myth Busters" on the Discovery Channel and they did everything they could think of to try and get a cell phone to ignite gas fumes and they couldn't do it. It was under a controlled environment, but they pumped a clear explosion proof box with gas fumes and I think there was a plate of gasoline inside as well, and stuck a cell phone inside...when they called, nothing.

Anyways.....
