Default Hyundai Sonata - self shifts at 6,200rpm :)

Well - this rental Sonata is proving to be a tough and worthy "test mule"..

I will try get some vids - and at least post some pics later.

But so far - all attempts to get the car to self destruct have failed... it has a "manu-shift tiptronic-wannabe" auto box.. that wont shift to the next lowest gear until you drop your revs below about 2500rpm - and self shifts to the next highest gear at 6,200-odd rpm..

I spent morning with the car in 1st - and let the "self-preservation-shift" mod select upshifts at 6,200rpm (6,500rpm red line ) and then allowed it to select down shifts - although i still try force it into the next lowest gear.

If I find some deserted area/car park one day I may do some standing starts and break tests on video. ...

In summation - what a pile shit the car is... cheap - but even more crappy than a Cavalier... and for the price a smaller Corolla or Civic would be a better buy - they just "feel" better.

Your's truly - the "roaming road tester"...

That's great RC, i am surprised that it automatically shifts, they could have used some technological thinking in other parts of the car.

how stupid! doesn't Hyundai realise that people wanna destroy their cars?!?!

funny thing is, in India, about 2 years ago the Sonata was considered a luxury car and was sold for about US$50,000!! people were buying it instead of a Merc which i found extremely amusing!!

I have been privilaged enough to have had rentals of the following cars:
2001 Mustang Convertable V-6
2003 Dodge Durango V-8
2003 Chevy Cavalier base model
2004 Chevy Tracker (POS model)
2004 Camaro V-6

All were absolute piles of junk, other than the Camaro, which had a decent engine. The dodge was the worst, with air conditioning that didnt work and an absolute inability to get above 75 MPH. I had the most fun in the mustang, which Im pretty sure I damaged the transmition (auto) doing nuetral drops and driving with it in 1 low ops: . No matter, they never found out

Cant wait to see what you do with it... lol

Well - considering that's 1,000rpm LESS than my Z red-line, I noticed I spend more time in my car above 4,000rpm than in this pile-o-poop...

Z06 redline is 1,500RPM more then it's peek bhp RPM @ 6000,

that is the biggest difference in redline and peek bhp in RPM i have ever seen.

wow talk about good ol' engineering
