Who else thinks the Mclarern F1 is overrated?
I'm sorry but its just bleh.
Sure its a super car, sure its totally awsome as far as 99.9% of cars go. And when it first came out, sure it was the ultimate car.
But I'm sorry, it just has never done it for me. The stock 1/4 mile and 0 to 60 seem a bit exagerated. According to Top Gear at really high speeds it bucks and jitters like crazy.
I dunno. I SEE that its an awsome car, but I just can't like it.

Moved to "car chat".. and ready for the usual discussion (we had it already some times in the past).
There will be ppl loving it, and other that simply can't. The latters usually think the Macca has no soul... or not a charming one at least. And someway I agree! I can't deny I still respect the whole F1 idea.. central driving position, NA angine, mindblowing performance still matching present supercars after some many years. it's an exclusive car, one of the fastest you can buy even today, it has a speed record and so on...
but even given the money, I wouldn't buy one I think... I can see so many other supercars that maybe never were at the apex of supercar's word as the F1 was for years, but wich have more carisma you would say: CGT, Zonda, Diablo, Murcielago, F40, 288GTO, F50, Enzo, MIURA!!!
The F1, nobody can deny it, is an amazingly effective car that achieved many goals, amazed everbody and so on, but indeed, that given, I can in my book it is not the top choice let's say

Im not an f1 fan.. Compared to the ferraris it never handled all that great. It did many other things better, but honestly top speed, storage space, ect didnt bother me that much.

for its time, the mclaren f1 was definitely one helluva car. it may have its inherent flaws but i think all supercars do. it's definitely in my top 5 supercars of all time.

For it's time (and still greatly today) the F1 was not just a great focused car, it was a huge milestone, yardstick, etc... in new innovation, technology, design, and originality. The combonation of these things combined with it's exclusivity, really made this car something special.

I think it has to be on the list of the best cars of all time...in EVO..the magazine Gordan Murray talked about driving the F1 on the autobahn and he says that this kind of driving was what the F1 was meant for...not for going through corners, he even said it had way to much body roll for that...thats why he never intended to have it race competitively, even though it eventually and inevitably was...its not my favorite by any means I just think that Gordon Murray is one hell of a designer and if he wanted to make something handle like a Ferrari he could have but thats not what he was intending to build..by the way my fav would prob be the CGT..

Well, I mean I do respect it for what it does.
But as far as super cars go, its all about the F40 for me. I LOVE that thing.

In what way is the McLaren less of a car than an F40? Not even in price lol. Being a BMW fan and the Mclaren being the fastest car while using a BMW motor does it for me. I can think of no other car that comes close to be as desireable for me as the McLaren is. Even moreso than the motor being BMW, it appeals to me that no car in so much time can beat it. I love how it has 3 seats, something no other car I can think of has, I love how it looks, I love how fast it is... well al I can say is that the only thing I hate is that I dont have one =(

I like it´s style a lot, but not as much as other supercars (F40, XJ220, Zonda...), but judging by the reviews i have seen and read about the car, i think there´s still no other supercar like it.

Yes,i believe it is overrated. At the time of it's release it was in my opinion by far the best supercar and i'd say it's still one of the best supercars of all time. But personally, now a days i think they're are cars that are just as good. Maybe not as fast, but just as good. In my opinion, Pagani Zonda C12S 7.3, Porsche Carrera GT, Lamborghini Murcielago, Koenigsegg CC8S and the Ferrari Enzo.

in my opinion, the mclaren f1 set the tone for all current supercars. so in this respect, i don't think it's overrated. not at all.

Well, yeah its a good car. I just personally do not care much for it.
And I didnt say the f40 was better. I just like it a LOT....probably way more than I should. Infact, if someone parked an F40 infront of my house with the keys in it I would take the car. They wouldnt deserve it anymore.

one thing is sure, cops would have quite some trouble catching up to you to recover that car!
