For me the best one is the need for speed Porsche 2000...it's incredible how the game makes you "feel" the car...if you have a force-feed back wheel you can feel the car grip...

The best race car simulator(now for those who dont know what a simulator is, its not need for speed, or test drive or anything else)
Let me see for F1 its F1C9902.
For GTs its still GTR2002.

Id say nfsu is the best out right now. The customizing and graphics can't be touched. I looked at the screen shots for live for speed and they were pretty unimpressive. Im waiting to be able to download new cars for it.

Think he asked for "the best sim" not "the best graphics"..
Live for speed is one of the more realistic handling racing games out there.
And F1 99-02 and GTR 2002 as mentioned above, and other mods for F1 99-02 and F1 2002. Also check out Grand Prix Legends. And a free game called NetKar.

I haven't tried that live for speed thing yet, but if you want to customize the best pc game I've tried for that is Street Legal Racing. Although very buggy, you can change anything in the car almost.

there are some great simulators out there... i only wish theyd be as good of a comparison to real driving as ms Flight sim is to flying. ive seen some amazing mods done to the game where almost all flight controls are created from various analog former flight components, as well as 6 monitors surrounding you

I tend to stay away from driving games on the PC but I would say Need for Speed Porsche or High Stakes 2

Guys - you need to discover NETKAR.
It's entirely free, and loads of tracks are available. I'm working on the topgear test track at the moment.
Sadly - it's usual website is down ( www.nkzone.com ) but google for netkar 0.99 and enjoy some 360 Goodness, along with a few other interesting cars.
http://forum.racesimcentral.com/forumdisplay.php?f=244 is the place for Netkar chatting etc, and a few of us race most nights at 22:00, hence the name on the boot...

Agree (I mentioned the game above aswell). Very good and fun, especially for a free game. Btw the website is up now, so here is a link directly to the game download; http://www.nkzone.com/downloads.asp?cat=14
and here you can download extra tracks; http://www.nkzone.com/downloads.asp?cat=13

Rally Trophy. Older cars as Lancia Fulvia, Lancia Stratos, Ford Cortina, Mini and so on  http://www.gamerankings.com/itemrank...?newsid=112615
But still NFS 2000/Porsche is one of the best cause of still pretty graphyx and handling.
And I am still making cars for NFS 4 HS/RC. NFS HP2 code have been cracked so when I get the game I will do cars for it
