Default Front License Plate Law

Where are you located and do they require your car to have front license plate?

I'm in California where it's the law. Hit and miss as to whether you'll get written up for it. I have never in my life, seen a Corvette with a front plate. All Ferraris I've ever seen never have them. 99% of the Porsches I've seen don't have them, but it's the law. I've gotten a ticket for it once. I was parallel parked and the whole street was covered with tickets...I noticed, it was everyone without a front plate. Do you think a meter maid had a bad day that day?

Just a brain fart: an Enzo would need a front license plate. Where would it go? Would it cover one of the vents on the side or the air channel in the middle?

A highway patrol officer could make his quota in 30 minutes by parking at the entrance or exit of a race track and writing out front license plate tickets on race day. How would the Enzo owner "fix" it? I doubt it came with a front license plate bracket.

The Enzo has a front plate mounting.. on the front right I think.. I saw some pics where you can see a black are there. Some countries even allow adhesive plates I think.

And anyway, here in Switzerland it's mandatory... pretty small compared to the back one, but yes, mandatory as in the whole Europe basically.

If we were allowed a small plate like that Enzo, I wouldn't have a problem...but the US plates are huge and the rear and fronts are the same.

In New York State it's kind of sketchy? My dad has an S6 avant and it only has a rear plate ( the dealer only got one plate, our big ugly plates would look terrible on the front of that car) The law here reads that it is "recomended" by the DMV and law inforcement that you have both front and rear plates. Which would make you think that it's not mandatory, then they go on to say if you don't have two plates you could get up too a $200 fine. Go figure! Havn't had any problems yet with having only the rear plate!

i wouldnt really worry about getting a ticket..its not a moving violation so it wont cost much or ding ur insurance..and 9 times out of 10 u wont get ticketed for it unless the cop has it in for u..if so he will just find something else

technicly anything but a completely stock car in cali is illegal..so if they really wanted to they could give u a ticket( i say that because there are some really old laws that forbid any type of modification)

Two plates required in VA. Only cars I have seen with 1 plate are either temp tags or those from out of state.

The US plates are not near as long as the european style plates.

plates at the front are quite silly, cops over here always walk around the back to check the plates anyways

In the Netherlands you need a front plate as well. It has to be a large one too!! (like at the back) A smaller one is illegal, but tolerated. But if the cops don't like you (fast car...) they'll give you a penalty. So imagine a big yellow plate at the front of your ENZO.....

I am pretty sure in Canada you need both a front and a back plate but if you only require one plate I think it is kind of retarded for it to be required on the front.

In the US it's different from state to state, I live in a state
that doesn't require it. Personally I think that with the tech-
nology that's around today they could totaly do away with
license ptates, the question is, why don't they, polotics anyone. :fist:
Instead of trying to figure out how to make the plates more
visible to cops they could just install a transmitter in every
car that would transmit the licence plate number.

Not everywhere in Canada.
I live in Canada in the Province of Québec and we have not any front license plate. I find that particularly ugly all cars with a front license plate, especially on a sport car.

Front license plate is not required in the Province of Alberta, Canada

However, in British Columbia, both front and rear plates are required, otherwise, u will get a $79 fine for not having the front license plate (both front and rear plates look exactly the same except that the rear plate has a date sticker and an insurance sticker on it (with the expiry month and year)
Also, we can't control the font size/style on the plate since they are printed by ICBC (a gov. agency)

It's required in Minnesota. I have mine on, just because I see no point in taking it off. I really don't care what it looks like. If I had a Ferrari or something, my opinion might change. As of right now, I could care less if it's on there or not.

My friend doesn't keep his on. Been that way for months. He has yet to get a ticket, but he does carry the license plate in the car. So all he would have to do is say it fell off or somethign stupid and he forgot to put it back on. Most policeman would just say whatever, put it back on and let ya go.
