Default Hair transplant...or let it go?

First off, i'm not losing my hair..i know exactly where it's going..South.

i was looking at me Sr. pic, taken 5 years ago and then looked at myself in the mirror and in only 5 years, i look like i've aged 9. I've had people think i was in my late to mid 30's and it's rare that i get carded buying booze. now I don't consider myself to be a vain person, but this is kind of upsetting to me as i'm not even 25 yet.

My girlfriend seems to enjoy poking fun at it, which until she started flopping her long hair ontop of my head, i really didn't care. I don't really want to look like George Costanza in our wedding pics (whenever that may be, at this point it's just an eventuality) but still.

I've tried the growth stimulation shampoos and they didn't help much, if anything they reduced the number of hairs on the wall of the shower by maybe 4 or 5 then i found out that i've probably got 2 factors working against me: Genetics, and hormones. Apparently high testosterone levels are the main cause of hairloss (weird huh?) and because of ciculation around the scalp, it just ends up building up into a wax-like substance which chokes out the folicles. The shampoos and rogaine type stuff just breaks down the wax and leaves youhoping there are a few good folicles left.

The restoration surgery is about 4 grand, takes 4 to 5 months to start really growing and supposedly it grows about a half inch a month after that. I could probably pay it off in about 4 months if i worked overtime, but i'm also kind of wondering what else i could do with 4Gs. Doing this would also increase the amount of time i live at home by a a couple months....not so sure i'm crazy about that idea

hmmm i dont think i'd do it... 4 grand is alot of money... on the other hand going bald isn't great either... i'd just keep the hair short so it doesn't show that much...
btw a friend of mine recently spotted my first grey hair  so you're not the only1 here with hair problems

on a serious note, dont worry about it. me thinks if its really bothering you, tell wifey to stop making fun.

Well I'm bald by choice and am fortunate enough to be able to pull it off. I say go for it. What do you have to lose? Well besides the hair. You might find that you really like the look.

I worked with a guy who wore hats all the time; then suddenly stopped wearing them. He went from nearly bald to having respectable amounts of hair on top.

also, some of th emost successful people I know are bald on top so i dono... shaving your head may or may not work... but hey, at least you are "making room" for additional hair to grow

Nah man, don't get surgery just for some new hair.. What are they gonna do? rip hair from your ass and put it on your head? heh.

As long as your girl loves you for who you are and not the hair on your head I say your fine. But for over coming the baldness yourself, I say fuck it. There are tons of bald heads in this world ;P

I'm going bald too. I don't plan on doin anything about it, I say let nature take it's course. My dad is bald, my grandpa is bald and my great grandpa was bald. I'm gonna go bald no matter what, so I'm not too worried about it.

Also, I talked with my mom who then called one of the doctors she works with, wearing a hat won't make you lose your hair. Two things cause hair loss, genetics and stress. High levels of testosterone would fall under genetics. The only real problem with wearing a hat is that it might cause dandruff. Even then, everyone has dandruff everyday of their lives. It's just a matter of whether or not you can see it. All a dandruff shampoo does is break down the skin flakes so small you can't see them.

It's kind of wierd for me. Despite the fact that my hairline is receding (it's onyl really noticeable if I pull my hair back) I have very thick hair.

I say go bald and hit the gym. With a muscular frame, you won't look to much like a goon with no hair.

this wasn't dandruff shampoo. it was actual stuff that is supposed to engourage new growth.

and no, they don't shave your ass and glue it on your head. Stop watching Family Guy they take strips from the back and sides of your head since those folicles never die, and then sort of graft them to the top of your head. If i do end up doing it, and i start losing hair again after i get married, i'll deal with it then. but kinda feel like this is rediculous at this stage in my life

and for all of you who say shave your head, i have gone with very very short (one step from being shaved) and i look moronic (not much different from now, but it's the principle of the thing)

$4,000 is alot of money, but i haven't exactly felt like my age for a long time. Driving the van while in LA didn't help matters any so at least i can say i've improved slightly

I know, I was just rambling.

I still think you should just let it go. If someone is gonna judge you based on your hair, they aren't worth your time, so fuck em.

But, if it's something you really want to do, then have at it. No one has the right to judge you for it, we all have a little bit of vanity in us, whether we admit it or not.

i think i'm going to see what happens now that i'm really not stressed anymore. If it starts coming back, then i'll say fuck it and allow it to come back, but if it continues, then i'll go to the consultation :bah:

I know my g/f won't dump me over it, but i kinda like it when she runs her fingers through my hair.

She'll just have to rub your head.

True...but the only real drawback as far as I can tell is that it gets pretty cold when the weather cools down.

I'm in the same boat as you ZfrkS62, I had a full head of hair when I graduated from high school, but as soon as I got to college it started thinning and well...as you put it, moving South. I started having it trimmed shorter and shorter, and eventually I got to the point where I was drunk as hell at a party and one of my attractive female fencing teammates walked over and said, "Hey, I've got a great idea, let's shave your head!!" I went with the flow and haven't really turned back.

The way I figure it, bald guys haven't got anything to lose and basically don't tend to look as if they're aging for about 30 years or so. Could be worse!

Well, one of the things about me is that i used to love to headbanging in high school and that requires hair hell, that's how i did my hair in the morning. Ran gel through it, put on something heavy and started headbanging for a few minutes. However it settled is how i wore it can't do that now, because the longer my hair gets, the thinner it looks. I've stopped styling it because i just ended up pulling out more hairs with the gel
