Default Pics from my surf holiday in portugal this summer

this summer a dream came true - i went surfing. i've done it before in miami but just for one day with no ones help and it didn't really worked out. so i decided to go in a camp and learn it from some guys how to do it. this spring a friend of mine told me that she's been in camp in portugal which was very nice. i've checked out their website, made a few calls and that was it - holidays were booked. i prepared myself with some swimming but to be honest, it was not enough. the fuck""g paddling was so exhausting... unbelievable....
the place is called Peniche, very famous for surfing. there is more or less no day without some waves. sadly the water was not that warm and we had to wear almost everyday the wetsuits.

this is the camp, very nice with a cool sunroof for having some drinks while sunset. from here we started everyday with the buses to the beach with the best waves.

Here some impressions from the beach. we started with some theory and went into the water and then..... it was just paddling paddling paddling..... try to stand up, fall, drinking salt water and again and again... but it was big fun!

and after a few trys i had my first ride. for sure no big waves but the feeling was incredible....

some beach fun

i also went to fatum surfboards. a surfboard factory pretty close to Peniche. it was really interesting to see how the boards are made and talk with the shaper. guess i'll order a custom made board when my surfing has improved somewhen...

and for sure there was also party..... the camp guys organised some caipirinha evening... my oh my... that was bad. surfing the next day was pretty hard. it was getting worse the second week because the village nearby had some fiesta every night for the whole week. the sold drinks just for € 2.- and we never came back before 6 in the morning. surfing started again at ten..... :silly:

i've seen some very nice sunsets from a little village called Baleal. from the cliffs there the view was perfect. and with a few bottles of port wine even better...!

the second week we went out for the green waves, the bigger ones. that was pretty tough in the beginning, paddling like hell. but i got a few pretty long rides and that infected me.. i had to do it again. surfing one of these big waves is awesome... look at the picture, the guy surfing this wave is me - YES!!!!

it was a great holiday and i'm very lucky that i made it, i went surfing. sadly the sea is pretty far from switzerland. so there will be no weekend trips to continue with this beautiful sport... there are no waves on lake constance... but i'm sure i'll continue with it, it's too much fun

Aloha!

Looks like you had fun here

That's one of our best areas for surfing but there's a lot more. Next time you should try Ericeira ( not so good for non experienced surfers, but some of the best waves in Europe ) or south Alentejo ( stunning beaches, really good for a surf trip ).

I don't live much far from Peniche, something like 100 km, and I surf too, but with a bodyboard
