Pretty cool test and insane that the E63 actually can hit 100km/h in 4.5s. Awesome to see the Merc and Bmw drifting on the wet track and not so awesome to see the Audi underster. I have absolutely no idea why they bother comparing the S6 with these other two beasts, it's slower than an E500 for gods sake. Mylist would be;
1. Mercedes E63 AMG
2. BMW M5
3. Audi S6
With that said they are all pretty impressive cars.

Exactly the same as the other American test, the S6 is the wrong car to compare to these two. Should be RS6, I know it isn't here yet but it should be.
Interesting to see the Audi understeer..?
But my choice is E63 first, then M5 and then the Audi..
Still, I would take a E39 M5 over these easily

The S6 is just not good enough for this challenge. I don't know if Audi engineers have done it that bad because they don't know how to tune a car properly - or because they want to increase the expectation about the upcoming hyper-fast RS6 I guess it's the second...
I wonder if the S8 would have been a better rival for the E63 and the M5
|
It would have been more right to test the E55AMG and the BMW 550i against the S6. The 2nd most powerful cars from all 3 manufacturers in the same class. Then test the E63, M5 against the RS6.
Like the M3, the RS4 is it's direct competitor, not the S4

I think you mean the E500 not the E55 AMG (out of production) that still would rip the S6 a new one. The 388bhp E500 is slightly faster than the S6 so that would be a pretty fair comparison.
Well When the E92 M3 hits the streets it will be a direct RS4 competitor, trust me.

Audi RS4 - 420hp
Audi S4 - 340hp
BMW E46 M3 - 343hp
The rival for the M3 should be the S4, not the RS
|
That is the new RS4 against the old M3, backwards...
The old RS4 with 380 against old M3 with 343 and given their respective power/wheight ratios, they were good competitors.

In an urban area the 550i feels quicker than the M5. More urgency at low revs.
The difference between 550i/M5 E63/E500 is not straightline speed. It's more about setup. If you just mosey doen the motorway you may aswell have a E500

..yes, it was the E500 I ment
when the new RS6 is released, whe can open a thread discussing it, with it's rightful competitors.

Thanks for the link.
Three great cars, but my favourite is the Merc with its new NA engine.

I just read this months car & driver, and the E63 wins by 1 point. The S6 is second, and the M5 is a long way back. The only section the E63 got a higher score than the S6 was on the 1/4mile and the acc. tests. So, given equal power, the S6 would have won by 20 points

Don't bother with "If this and if that". The E63 won. Wait for the RS6 to show up and then we'll see what happens. Remember that the S6 has quite alot more power than the E500 and yet manages to be slower..
