Sure is a waste I think the lesson to be learnt here is dont try skidding your car on a frozen lake if your not sure the ice cant take the weight. At least it got a good clean.
Joking aside it is a shame

This happend two years ago if i`m not wrong. It was the first new impreza here in Estonia.Car was two weeks or two days old and the owner wanted to have some fun on ice but ice as you can see was weak and so the car drowned.BTW-the car was running two week after that.

It seems to me that you have never driven on frozen lakes,it`s not dangerous at all if you have nice thick ice.It is very popuar, many events are held on lakes. But in this case the ice was just too thin.

Thanks for the pics!
I live in Sydney so no I've never driven on a frozen lake. I remember in Canada (where I'm from) that the rivers had all pick-up trucks at the bottom of the rivers

What are the signs that a river is safe to drive on? Temperture, time of season but how can you tell?

Thats good to hear!!! It make sense, if it was saltwater it be a instant right off, but if he thoughtly cleaned it it should run ok but the interior would stink!

Thanks for the comments guys

I bet the water didn't do to much damage to a new engine but the interrior and electronics must be fucked
