when i am listening to music and i am doin other things on the comp the music quality drops and it sounds like complete shit and its all muddy and such...... any ideas

maybe change the software you use to play the music? Instead of Media Player use winamp?

Maybe your computer was left on for too long? I leave my on and then sometimes I have problems but I just restart it and its fixed! Hopefully you will get it working.

Is this a new problem? Or has been there since a while now?
I suspect it could be because of 2 reasons,
1 Your HDD (HardDisc Drive) Capacity is really low, &, Or,
2 You need to upgrade your Memory, Thats what happened with me, While working on PhotoShop or Flash, few years back, the Music I played in the background would slowdown / jerk, though the quality never went low..
Also let us know what programs u using while playing music..
