Ok....so as you know I did some mods on my car. I put in a new Bipipe, a snub mount and RS4 Intercoolers. Everything went ok and I went to go take my car out for a run around the block. I didn't even get it above 3000 rpm and it was about a 1 min trip and I see that my car is smoking out the front grills. I open up the hood and see smoke come out of the engine near the back, where the downpipes are at. The thing is that I didn't even touch the downpipes yet.....but its smoking from them. I put my hand over it and its erally really hot. Plus, after about 30 seconds having the car sit and idle....it starts to make a whistling sound. Any suggestions? I think it might be the new mods?? Not sure though. Need help ASAP!!

are the downpipes or anything else that gets hot touching something it shouldn't? maybe you moved something too close to the pipes...
You could try to get some insulation wrap like they use on turbo's and exhaust to insulate the heat and see if that helps.
Is your engine overheating? or is it just the downpipes?
You could try to install the new pipes and see if that could help.
The whistling could be the Turbo getting more air then it used to or maybe your belt is getting loose that can cause a whistling noise was the fan or A/C running when it started to whistle? if so try turning them off the next time to see if the sound goes away.

T-bird, when I first started it the air conditioner/blowers were off. So then I decided to trun them on. When I did this the whistling went away....And when I turned the AC off again, the whistling came back. So...I figured that by turning the ac on and off I located where the whistling was coming from, and it is right were the Bipipe connects to the throttle body. SO! I let is sit idle for awhile to see if it started to smoke again and nothing happened. It didn't even get that hot. So I went at took it on some runs around the block. I kept the blower on high the whole time and I gave it some more gas this time getting up around 4500 rpm. Nothing happened. The gauges said everything was normal, I popped the hood and no smoke was coming out of it. So now Im worried. I don't know if its ok...or if its still in trouble. Im going to take it on a run again tonight to make sure. What do you think? :cry:

well if the whistling is coming from the throttle body were the tube connects to it then maybe there is a small air leak no problem really just get a rubber pipe clamp/seal (forgot the technical term) they use them on intakes all the time and put that on it, the whistle should go away. If the car doesn't smoke anymore it's should be ok there might have been something on the pipe that just burnt off like when you change your oil and you might accidentaly spill some on the Exhaust manifold and that will smoke like crazy. You might be in the clear now.
And your sure the whistling is from the throttle body?
I would just check the belt tension and make sure just to be safe just pull on it when the car is off if it is really loose then you have a problem that could cause that whistling.

so the temp guage reads not hot when it does it , but still smokes? sounds like you have something touching a downpipe, or the downpipes have something touching them..., you didnt spill anything in there on them while installing the bipipe dod you?

well he said it doesn't smoke anymore so I assumed that there was something spilled on it. so I assume that problem is gone but it is determining the actual location of the whistling sound now and I think it might be air leaking into the throttle body where the bipipe connects to it from what he explained.

ya everything seems to be ok now. I attempted to take off the downpipes and when I did, I sprayed some penetrating oil on it so thats what my guess is when the smoke happened. Secondly, the throttle body whistling is definitely coming from the bipipe connection. So...i just pushed that on tighter and fastened it down and it runs great now. Thanks for your help tbird and paul. I was just panicing

...hell i never saw smoke come from my car like that. But its ok now. Thanks again

ill asume he met "vag-com" which is a error checking tool that uses a laptopt to pull error codes from the ECU

i highly reccomend purchasing a VAG com if you are gonna do anything serious with the car

the vag com tool can also do real time monitoring of anything that is monitored by the cars ECU, that and if you already have a windows based laptop then the software and the supplied connector arent that expensive, i highly reccomend it, i have the sofware and the connectors for several makes of car, and i use it all the time

ya I looked for it and I found it. Its pretty cool, the one built in the car. It went through a bunch of things like my brakes, oil, temp, oil temp...and some other stuff. It gave me the OK. neat stuff I didn't know about.

ya it is. the cops are be easy going on when it comes to speeding in michigan. Near the detriot area, its kinda given to go 10mph above the speed limit on the highways. Except now Im going down to school in Ohio and those cops are a bunch of aholes when it comes to speeding. I was driving 4 in the morning down there and I saw two cops with laser guns in themiddle of the highway shooting in both directions. GIVE ME A BREAK! I just need to watch my speed down there a little more.
