This doesn't surprise me. My friend's dad is a car nut. He has 2 BMW's and 2 Benzes. Their 330i went in for a service 5k after the warranty was up, and the dealer came back telling him that there were some things wrong with the car. They wanted something on the order of 7k to fix it. He went apeshit and ended up paying 3k.
Thought they gave him an X3 as a rental.
