InterProgressBank Spartak Racing driver Peter Kox used the dry track most efficiently at the final round of the Le Mans Series at Silverstone. He put the Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT on the GT1 class pole position with a lap time of 1:45.327 minutes. In the process he beat the established competition from Aston Martin and Corvette.
Kox took the class lead from the Modena Aston Martin as the race went green, but lost it after 20 minutes. However, the Dutchman never lost contact to the leader. Unfortunately, there was a light collision with an LMP2 Prototype after two hours, which cost several seconds. Roman Rusinov, who was now at the controls, could however keep second place.
A second accident with an LMP1 Audi, which the Murciélago touched during hectic lapping, did not stop the second placed car in GT1. However, IPB Spartak Racing lost a lap to the leading Aston Martin. "Before the accident we were in with a chance of winning," explained a disappointed Peter Kox after the race.
Kox / Rusinov were unable to close the gap and finished the race in second position.
After five 1000-kilomtres races IPB Spartak Racing took 3rd place in the Team Championship, Peter Kox / Roman Rusinov were fourth in the Drivers’ Championship.
