Reiter Engineering experienced something completely different with a
Lamborghini Gallardo GT3 during the 3-City Rally. The 2007 ADAC GT
Master car of Peter Kox / Albert von Thurn und Taxis was modified within
the space of just one week for the rally event.
When compared with the circuit version the Gallardo was equipped with a
smaller rear wing, shorter front splitter, dampers with greater travel and a
hand-brake. The final modification in particular was at the request of
Reiter Engineering employee Andreas Wetzelsperger whose idea it was
to pursue this project. Wetzelsperger is responsible for looking after the
KTM GT4 and till a few years ago was himself in the rally scene,
including a spell as Toyota factory driver.
Together with co-driver Christian Schön, Wetzelsperger drove the
Lamborghini Gallardo GT3, throttled to produce just 410 ps, as lead car
during the 3-City Rally, a round of the ADAC Rally Masters. Although no
official times for the ‘lead car’ were released Reiter Engineering was
more than satisfied with the first event. “We had absolutely no technical
problems whatsoever, which surprised us a little as the suspension forces
are incomparably higher than on the race track,” summarised Hans
Reiter.
“As a rule our times were within the top four for each special stage, in
special stage 3 we would even have had the best time,” said Hans Reiter
enthusiastically. “I think the subject of rallying could be very interesting for
us in 2009. As I’ve always maintained GT3 cars are universal in
motorsport.”
