They're doing the same in Germany and other countries. It's so hilarious when you're watching a movie with Denzel Washington and you're hearing some cheesy German voice when he opens his mouth
Come to think of it, I think dubbing movies and tv-shows is a big reason why a lot of people in France, Germany, Spain and Italy can hardly speak any English.
I've been watching English TV-shows with and without subtitles since I was three years old and never had to pay much attention in English classes. It's such a huge help in developing language skills.
