That's codswallop mate. Clarkson has a particularly non geeky style which is why everyone's girlfriend watched TG with them. He knows plenty about cars and is rated as being fairly handy behind the wheel by other journalists. Just avoids alienating his audence.

He does show his ignorance on certain cars. In his the good, the bad, and the ugly special where he rips on American cars, he mistook a base V6 Mustang for a Mustang GT. Another time, he asked a Corvette dealer if the C6 vette he was sitting in had a 5.7 litre . . . so no, he's not always up to date on things, especially if they're American. I love Clarkson and all but what self-respecting car enthusiast can use the word "torques" with a straight face. It's unit-less and has no meaning!!!!
Use pound-feet! Use newton-meters! It's not a hard concept.
