Yeah...but he bought it from futureshop, the best buy equivalent of Canada, if he went ahead and got their extended warranty, he can punt it off the top floor of a skyscraper and tell futureshop he "dropped" it, and they'll replace it with a new one no questions asked. They have really soft warranty policies, one of the stronger reasons to buy from them.
My friend did it with a radeon 7500 he bought 2 years ago that was on sale (basically the radeon 9600pro equivalent of fall 2001). He bought it with an extended warranty of 2 years, toughed it out till the warranty was 2 months from expiry, drew a bunch of pencil lines all over the back of it (graphite is conductive if you didn't know), stuck it in a beater computer, fried it, and asked for a new equivalent card
. It's wrong, but hey, he got a 9600 pro out of it.
